Cedar Grove Friday Flash
October 8, 2021
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
Last Wednesday, we began our yearly school tradition called Pink Out Wednesdays. We were so excited to see many of our students and staff wearing pink in honor of those who have battled or who are currently battling breast cancer. We will be compiling pictures of all the Pink Out Wednesdays into a video. Please send pictures of your pinked out students (be as creative as you wish!) to Mrs. Hirschhorn by October 30th. In the meantime, enjoy viewing the pictures above!
As mentioned in our September 17 newsletter, it is our greatest and collective responsibility to keep all students safe and well. Sending a child to school with any one of the Covid symptoms found on this checklist may result in risking other students' health and/or requiring students to be quarantined. This list is also published on our school website. Please do not send your child to school if the answer is "yes" to any symptom on the checklist. Thank you for doing your part in preventing exposure and working collaboratively in an effort to minimize the spread illness.
The Arc Maryland, Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council, and Maryland Department of Disabilities invites students in elementary and middle schools to participate in the 2021-2022 Inclusive Campaign "Together We're Better" Artwork Contest. Feel free to view the Artwork Contest flyer and Registration Form. In addition, there are videos that highlight the experiences of Marylanders who have grown up with a disability. This information is also posted on our website.
Parents, we are looking for someone who would be willing to serve our students as a lunch/recess aide. This is a paid position and would require two or two and a half hours per day each week. If you or someone you know is interested, please call Penny German at 240-740-6190. Thank you!
As a reminder, our Welcome Back to School Picnic will be on Wednesday, October 15 from 5:30-7:30. Please Click here for all the wonderful details (there are three sign ups, so make sure you check those out)! We hope you will be able to join us!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German
Holiday Giving Assistance Program
If you and your family are in need and would like to be referred for possible assistance for the holiday season, please complete this referral form below by October 27 to provide the required information. Resources are limited; please apply only if you and your family are truly in need. While a referral is not a guarantee of assistance, the Project helps as many families in need as donations allow.
Substitute Teachers Still Needed!
MCPS is seeking substitute teachers! Substitute teaching is an excellent way to learn about our schools while allowing principals and teachers to get to know you. To qualify as a substitute teacher, each applicant must present proof of the completion of the minimum of an associate's degree or 60 college credits from an accredited institution.
Substitute teachers are temporary employees and are on an on call basis. An automated substitute calling system helps you manage your work schedule by allowing you to call at any time, day or night, to find jobs. This system is telephone and internet accessible. The system uses your subject area and location preferences to offer you jobs on the days you have selected and allows you to change the days you work.
Substitute Teacher Rates: Daily hourly rate of pay $18.79- Long Term rate $26.81.
If you hold a valid Maryland professional eligibility certificate or standard advanced professional certificate, the daily hourly rate of pay is $19.97-Long Term rate $28.45. In order to qualify for this higher rate of pay, you must submit a copy of your valid Maryland certificate.
