Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month takes place September 15 to October 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community.
For the duration of the Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Eason, our music teacher, would like students to bring in a picture or paragraph of someone who they admire from the Hispanic Culture. Pictures may be print outs, family photos, newspaper article, and/or magazines. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Eason, christina.eason@gccisd.net.
Attendance Tips
Parents, please review the following tips to help you and your child maintain a good attendance record. Research supports that attendance directly affects academic achievement. We need our students to be healthy and present to maximize their learning.
Absences, Tardies and Early Dismissals
- All excuses must be in writing or email Ms. Benfield, Christine.benfield@gccisd.net (verbal notification is not accepted)
- Illness and extenuating circumstances are the only excusable absences
- You have 3 days from the date of the absence to turn in a parent written excuse
- You are allowed 10 written parent notes per school year
- Even if the school nurse sends your child home, you must send either a parent written note or a doctor’s note
- You may also receive a court warning for excessive tardies
District Calendar
We would like to share the district instructional calendar for 2021-2022. Please make vacation plans on days we are out of school. Attendance is very important for academic success.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES!
- If you have a transportation change for your child, please call us before 2:30 p.m. We will notify the teacher and student.
- If picking up students in the car rider line you must have a yellow 2021/2022 car tag.
- Anyone picking up in the front office must have a valid ID (18 years or older) and must be on the contact list.

Character Trait- Kindness
This month we’re talking about the beautiful character trait of Kindness. The dictionary defines it as: “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” But it is so much more than that! The definition we are using in class is:
Kindness: the choice to act with words, gifts, or actions to bring appreciation, positivity, and encouragement to others and yourself.
FAMILY CHALLENGE: A Kind Face
Ask your child about a friend or family member that they feel like they haven’t talked to in a while. Brainstorm 2-3 kind things that they feel about that person and then call them up and let them know! Better yet, video call them if you have access so they can see your smiling faces while you share.
Challenge yourself to reach out to one adult in your life and do the same. Call your cousin or your aunt or your friend that you haven’t reached out to in awhile and give them the kind gift of time.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application
Please click on this link to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. As a reminder, if in the future you are going to want to apply for the P-EBT Assistance program. This is the application that is required to be completed prior to being considered for financial services.
Once you go to the website, click on the blue button on the right, Free and Reduced Lunch Application. Also, once you have completed your application for your child, you are able to go to this same page and check the status of the application.
