ROMS Families ~
As you might imagine, the journey from traditional middle school to comprehensive International Baccalaureate school involves an extensive, yet invaluable, time commitment that comprises a perpetual cycle of planning, action, and reflection. Involved are research- and philosophy-driven starts and stops and twists and turns that result in profound changes of practice in both teaching and learning. What results from the hard work are student-centered, rigorous, and purposeful educational opportunities to grow from successes--and from mistakes.
As the development of the whole child is the heart of IB, honoring what our learners communicate concerning their experiences is a requisite piece of our process. Recently, our IB MYP Student Forum, a group of students from ROMS and ROHS that meets to discuss the IB MYP from a ground level perspective, shared some thoughtful insight on our progress.
In a survey concerning the instructional classroom shifts over the past three years, students provided positive feedback on teachers’ authentic work developing student skills with the IB Learner Profile, Key/Related Concepts, Inquiry, and ATL. Another highlight from our student feedback identified the high quality collaborative opportunities our learners are encountering in their studies here. When we succeed in blending students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, we are allowing them to experience a deep, rich learning that leverages others’ strengths, strengthens weaknesses, and increases higher-order thinking. (Talk to your child and visit the IB MYP website for detailed information on what’s cooking at ROMS.)
Student and ROMS family feedback will always be something that fuels us, so we will continue to ask students and you to keep us at our best. Our school-family partnership guarantees that ROMS will
be warm and welcoming,
be memorable,
and prepare students for ROHS and beyond.
Thank you for sharing your kids with us. They are awesome.

Character Education
Charity Door Decorating Project
During the month of February, our LEAP classes engaged in a building-wide classroom door decorating competition. Students researched and chose charities to learn about and use as inspiration for their designs. From Make-a-Wish to the Flint Water Crisis, our classroom doors were decked out with inspirational quotes and decorations that best represent the missions of each charity. $100 in donations will be made for the top three doors based on student votes. Please watch the video below to see the remarkable effort our learners put into this great project!

Pickup/Drop-off procedures
PICK UP & DROP OFF GUIDELINES: As the safety of ROMS students is our top priority, we request that you consider the information below concerning the arrival and departure of students to and from the building.
AM Drop Off: Do not park or stand at any time in the drop-off lanes on Washington or Austin streets--these lanes are for the sole purpose of expeditious and safe student drop off. The Austin Street doors are the designated entrance for students entering the Breakfast Club between 7:15 -7:50 a.m. For the safety of all, please make sure your children exit cars toward the sidewalk, not the street side of your cars.
Traffic on Austin Street flows west to east (toward Washington). Do not disrupt the flow of traffic by using our neighbors' driveways to turn around.
PM Pick Up: Do not park at any time in areas designated "No Parking" zones. Work with your students to select safe, alternate spots for pick up by referencing this MAP.
