Weekly Shout Out goes to our fabulous PE Dept and their STUD CLUB! On December 20, our RMS PE Department and Stud Club students hosted our PE Holiday Minute to Win It Day! WEEKLY NEWS
Check Your Mood Week- THIS WEEK! This years Check Your Mood Week, Facilitated by North County Lifeline, will take place the week of January 7th in Science classes. This program is for all 7th graders to learn how to help when they themselves, or a friend are suffering from depression or suicidal thoughts. Although only 7th graders receive the program, it’s important to be aware that emotions run high in all grade levels. If ANY student regardless of grade seems to be triggered by anything please reach out to the counseling office. After the presentation, NCLL clinicians will be following-up with any students who are identified as needing additional support. It’s important that students are sent to the office soon after they are summoned in order to maximize the time we have with the clinicians. NCLL will also be offering an optional training for all teachers to know how to recognize the Signs of Suicide on January 14th during both lunches. Please bring your lunch to room C-14 to participate.
Grade Reporting Reminder: The end of the semester is on January 10th. The new semester starts on January 13 and report card grades are due on January 15th.
8th Grade Intersession This Week: The 8th graders are going to be participating in Intersession this week (Jan 7th-10th). This should not affect their electives or PE. Each 8th grade Math, Science, English, and History teacher is taking their fourth period class and working on an Original Creation. They will have that same group during the periods of the four academic classes. Students will leave the core class during electives and PE to attend regularly scheduled classes. Students might ask to get out of class to continue working on their creation; however, the expectation is that they attend their PE and elective courses. The core teachers and office have their schedules and know where they should be. If you have any questions, please contact admin or the 8th grade team. Thanks!
Boy’s Winter Basketball Tryouts will be January 9th and 10th in the MPR at 3:30. The Boys and Girls Club will be hosting a mandatory Parent Orientation Meeting on Wednesday, January 15th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm in room C-14 to discuss the registration process and Winter season pricing. Artful Learning Highlight- 7th Grade ELA
7th Grade ELA: As an introduction to their interdisciplinary unit on “Transformation,” our 7th grade students explored the masterwork "Greta the Great White Shark" by Angela Hazeltine Pozzi. Students compared this masterwork to the work of Renaissance artists who also transformed pollution into something useful, and then delved into the concept of transformations created through various artistic media such as portraits, dance, and text. They identified real-life transformations and created a word collage of transformations. They researched and created a Google slide project to identify time, nature, and man-made transformations, connecting back to the unit's significant question. This project allowed students to see how something in its original state can change and be transformed into something useful. Next, students will participate in an inquiry center that will address the transformation of characters from the novel Freak the Mighty. Our Artful Learning Journey Maps provide a visual that tracks progress through a unit of study. Journey maps help students remember what they learned and see the big picture of the unit.
Vista Unified LCAP and Budget Community Forums
In order to fully engage the Vista community in discussions about potential budget solutions and to gather input and recommendations, VUSD has set a series of LCAP and Budget Community Forums taking place around the district. We will have Spanish interpretation available at all forums. Further, we will be posting to the Vista Unified web page a link to a digital feedback form for all community members who are not able to attend a forum in person. We will also be fully engaging our bargaining units (Vista Teachers Association and the California School Employees Association), as well as the District English Language Advisory Committee, District Parent Advisory Committee and the Vista Parent Teachers Association in feedback and recommendations for budget solutions.
