News From the Nurse

Hello Families,

The school clinic has a need for new boy’s underwear in all sizes and new/gently used pants for boys & girls in sizes 6-12. We use these items to reclothe students who have accidents during the school day.

Also, I wanted to share some information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine since many elementary students are now receiving it.

What are the side effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for kids?

Children given the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines had side effects similar to those experienced by people age 16 and older. The most reported side effects include:

· Pain where the shot was given

· Fatigue

· Headache

· Chills

· Muscle pain

· Fever

· Joint pain

· Swollen lymph nodes

· Nausea

· Decreased appetite

Similar to adults, children have side effects within 2 days after vaccination that typically last 1 to 3 days. More children reported these side effects, except for injection site pain, after the second dose of the vaccine. However, some people have no side effects.

After your child is given a COVID-19 vaccine, he or she will be monitored for 15 to 30 minutes to see if he or she has an allergic reaction that requires treatment.

It isn't recommended that you give your child an over-the-counter pain reliever before vaccination to prevent side effects. It's OK to give this kind of medication after your child gets a COVID-19 vaccine. (Mayo Clinic, 2021)

Counselors' Corner

Core Essential Value – December

During the month we will be meeting with your children for a lesson that discusses the importance of service. Service starts at home and spreads to our greater community including our school. Over the last few years, our students participated in several service opportunities on our campus. With the assistance of our student council and Jr. Counselors we have collected water and other necessities for the women and children living at the Mission of Yahweh, collected items for “care bags” for hospital staff, and collected personal hygiene items for our military. Our two service organizations also participate in an annual Spring Clean of the exterior of our campus. The Jr. Counselors also spend one day of their recess each week to work with Kindergarten and 1st grade classroom teachers and their children. Service is alive and well on our campus! We will be sharing information about our next service endeavor with you in the near future.

Andre’ and Dierker’s Champs

Andre’ will be participating in the Dierker’s Champs baseball league this season. This program falls under the umbrella of services Cy-Hope sponsors. We will field a team of 4th and 5th grade students and play against other participating CFISD elementary campuses. Tryouts took place Saturday, December 4 on our campus, once the team is constructed, practices will begin in January. We look forward to this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Box Tops for Education

Each Student’s Goal= 10 Box Tops in December!

Did you know that Andre’ receives 10₵ for every General Mills Box Tops for Education we collect? As you are preparing for the holidays, and throughout the year, please remember to scan your receipts for Box Tops from participating products. Please see the flyer below for information on how to download the app and scan receipts.

You can still send in box top clips and certificates in a bag or envelope to your child's teacher.
