MUSIC NEWS FROM MS. GRUBEN
Hello Bishop Families!
Music at Bishop is off to a great start!
In grades K-2:Our learning objectives are focused on musical opposites; Fast/Slow, Loud/Soft, and Sound/Silence. We are also learning a lot about moving and singing to a beat as well as experiencing basic rhythms. They have been singing and moving to songs that help them internalize the music. All the classes have been learning about the classroom percussion instruments and many of them have begun to play on them. Favorite songs include: Kinder: Sleeping Bunnies and Frog in the Meadow, First: Sun in my Heart and Pitter Patter, Second: Ha Ha this Away and Charlie over the Ocean
In grades 3-6
Our learning objectives have been focused on pitched percussion instruments (xylophones, metalaphones, and glockenspiels). We are learning techniques and concepts on these musical instruments that will help to establish music literacy which will be used all year. We have focused on the different descriptive qualities of sound that each instrument has. Favorite songs include: Third grade: Fuzzy Wuzzy, Fourth Grade: Listen, Fifth and Sixth grade: Out goes the Rat
I have been having a great time sharing my love of music with all the students at Bishop this month and I am looking forward to a fun year of learning!

flight to the imagination and life to everything”

SCHOOL STORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
COUNSELORS CORNER
Each month, I plan to highlight a different resource available in our community. This month, I am sharing information about Integrated Family Community Services (ICFS). They have a food bank, clothing assistance, bus tokens, assistance with utilities, and medical and prescription assistance. They can also assist with case management, or rent/mortgage expenses. Right now, they have back to school supplies, and they are able to supply baskets for the holidays. Current proof of address, income and a current photo ID must be provided at every visit. (You can review income eligibility requirements on the ICFS website.)
IFCS will provide resources at least once to anyone, and with a phone call ahead of time, they may be able to assist with documentation/birth certificates. IFCS is located at 3370 Irving Street, in Englewood. They can be reached by phone at (303) 789-0501. There is a wealth of information on their website: www.ifcs.org
If there are other resources that your family may need, or if you would like to talk with me about other supports that your child may need, please let me know!
