Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

There is no school on Monday, January 18th, 2016. When we return we are asking for you to conduct an activity in your classroom that will help our students learn about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I am requesting that AP Haynes and Ms. Johns, Head Teacher play over the Intercom Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" Speech over the Intercom in the morning and for the PreK PM students in the afternoon.

Acknowledgements

WE would like to extend a congratulations to Mrs. Kaitlyn Doherty (Primary SPED) and Mrs. Melissa Cayhill (2nd Grade) on their marriage that occurred before Winter Break!

WE would like to welcome back Ms. Lydia Clark, (SPED) who was on a bereavement leave in this loss of her mother. Ms. Clark has our deepest sympathies and she has our support. Ms. Clark and family will continually be in our prayers.

WE are also saddened by the loss of our former Beasley student Tajane Brown, Class of 2015. Tajane was called home on New Year's Day and our hearts go out to Tajane's family. I would like to acknowledge some staff members who spoke at Tajane's funeral, Mrs. Stockstell (8th), Mrs. Simpson (Clerk) who gave a heart felt school resolution, and many former classmates of Tajane. We would also like to thank all of the staff members who took the time to come to Tajane's visitation.

On a personal note, this was my first experience of attending a child's funeral and it was very difficult. To lose a child has to be very hard. I can't imagine. However, what it reinforced to me is that life is so very special and that we all should take a moment to cherish it. Our children and our students are very precious.

I would like to extend a special note of gratitude and heartfelt thanks to my Assistant Principals Mrs. Penny Haynes and Ms. Jaidah Wilson. Thank you so very much for all that you do to help Beasley run smoothly. I want them both to know that I respect them and value their leadership.

"Helping Me to Smell the Flowers"

On a personal note, this week has been very challenging for me. Being a principal is a very challenging job. So in the midst of my daily grind at work, Ms. Trotter (Kindergarten teacher) knew I needed something to help my senses to come alive and to have a miraculous moment in my daily life that I may miss otherwise. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Ms. Trotter, for helping me to see that I needed to take some time out my busy schedule to appreciate what I have... Beasley! (all of you)

Caught Being Good Program! Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS)

Teachers and staff will have 100 Beasley Bucks in your mailbox to distribute to your students every beginning in the month of February. However, since we are starting the program within the middle of January you will receive 50 in your mailbox on Monday. Please see Mr. Dowell, Dean if you have any questions. The student must present a Beasley Buck and cash in order to purchase things in "The Principal's Treat" (Store).

We are considering giving these Beasley Bucks to our school Bus Drivers so that students will have an opportunity to earn money for being good while riding the school bus.
