Mrs. Holtz's Silent Auction Basket
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe that we are over halfway done with this school year, and we are talking about the school auction already. We will be organizing the class auction item for the upcoming Silent Auction event on April 28th.
This year, due to the location of the auction, we've been encouraged to think small but mighty as the space to display auction items is limited. Keeping that in mind, I need help with a basket idea. Anyone have any access to tickets, golf, gift cards, hugely discounted alcohol or any great ideas? I was thinking maybe "Wine and Dine" or "Burgers and Booze", simply because alcohol gets the most money. ANY other ideas would be most welcome, though. We would also love your help putting this together. Please email or text us with any ideas!
Best,
Shanna Kim and Christa Siladie

Classroom News
Math
Money was a very short unit! We will continue to revisit if your child needs a bit more practice. Before spring break, we will complete one more unit called Data Analysis. We will be learning how to collect data for a survey, investigate and analyze picture and bar graphs, and create and understand line plots.
- If you would like to work on math with your child at home, you have access to their eBook and lessons at home. Have them log into their ConnectEd account. Their password should be on their PW sheet, which can be found on Google Drive. If you are unable to find it, please send me an email and I will be happy to get it for you.
Reading
Guided Reading
- 9:00-9:45: Parent Volunteers and I meet with your child, ask comprehension questions, and break apart unknown words. So far this school year, we have used Storia. Storia is an online, digital library.
- Your child will be put in new flexible groups starting this week!
- Students also work on writing, buddy read, read to self, and do RazKids. Feel free to do Raz Kids at home too!
Reading Strategy Time
- 9:45-10:15: Students are working on strategies during reading flooding time.
- Some of the strategies include relating ideas, context clues, distinguishing important information, literary elements, making judgments, inferences/conclusions, and text structures.
Writing
- This week students are working on their individual word sorts, paragraph writing, reading responses and blogs. Please ask your child what their writing goal is and how they are proving that they are working on it!
- There should be at least 1 blog posted this week.
- Here is the link to your child's blog page. You can find their blog page by their initials. Feel free to leave comments on blog pages. If you could write 2 glows (things they are doing well) with 1 grow (things they need to work on). The support would be great!

Classroom Website
Google Drive Picture Folders
You should have received a 2016-17 2nd Grade Holtz Pictures Google invite from me.
This is where I will put all of the classroom pictures that I take this school year. Please feel free to add any pictures that you take as well into this folder.
Toy Policy
In addition, if students bring toys into the classroom, I do take them. The only way to get them back is if they go home and tell their parents that they chose to bring a toy into the classroom. The parent can then email me and let me know. I will give the toy back the following day. This truly helps students learn quickly not to bring toys into the classroom!
Thank you for the support!
