AHES Panther News

2021 Connection: December 17, 2021

Panther Families,

It was so much fun to see the students in their spirit wear this week! I had the opportunity to sub in kindergarten and second grade this week, and I loved how excited the students were to have me as their teacher for the day and show me all of the amazing things they have learned so far this year. It was the highlight of my week.

In addition to subbing, I have taught 16 of our 17 classes in the STEM Lab in November and December, and am looking forward to teaching the last class the first week back from winter break. I will continue STEM lessons through Design Thinking for the remainder of the year, with students joining me in the STEM Lab two more times to complete the STEM Unit with the Principal this school year. Being principal of AHES and having the opportunity to support and interact with your children is a great honor and joy. Thank you to our parents and families for being so involved and supportive of our educational programs here at AHES!

Parents, please help us inform our future budgets by taking the LCAP survey. You can find the survey at this link: https://ocde.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e2tPTKGxbhB58YC?Survey=Parent

Thank you for all of your kind words, cards, and gifts as we wrapped up this last week before break. I hope that you and your family have a great winter break and build many memories together.

Please see below for this week's updates.

Best,

Mrs. Van Wilgen Moore

Principal

AHES Lost & Found Items Available 12/20-12/22

You might have noticed the Lost & Found Cart outside during pick-up and drop-off this week. A few parents had success with finding some of their child's missing clothing or lunch boxes. We wanted to give one more opportunity for parents to check the cart before we donate the items to charity.

The Lost & Found Cart will be in front of the AHES Office Monday 12/20, 12/21, and 12/22 between the hours of 6:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Office staff will be on winter break and will be unavailable to assist. All items will be donated after 12/22. Thank you!

City of Anaheim Field Opening Ceremony Opportunity

The city of Anaheim has asked for ten of our students to attend and participate in the opening ceremony of the City of Anaheim's Field next to Anaheim Hills Elementary School. The event will take place on January 18th at 3:30 PM at the field. This ceremony is after school hours and organized by the City of Anaheim; a parent would need to attend with the child.

If your child is interested in attending this ceremony, please fill out this Google Form no later than January 9th, 2021. You might need to sign in to your child's OUSD account to fill out the form. On January 10th a raffle will be held to select the ten AHES students that will be able to attend the ceremony. Parents of those selected will be contacted the week of January 10th.

Anaheim Hills Community Showcase

The Orange Unified School District is inviting all families to the Anaheim Hills Community Showcase Event on February 2. The event starts at 4:30 pm with elementary and middle school performances and the high school showcase event will begin at 5:30. This is a great opportunity to see everything that our Anaheim Hills Feeder Pattern Schools have to offer students TK-12th grade. The community will also be able to tour the brand new state-of-the-art STEM building at Canyon High, so you are able to show your students what they will get to experience as they matriculate through the Anaheim Hills feeder pattern. We hope to see you at this great community event.

El Rancho Information for 6th Grade Families

El Rancho will host 7th grade information nights when we return in January. On January 18th and 19th, they will have in-person meetings and on January 20th there will be a virtual meeting via Zoom. Parents are welcome to attend either meeting, as each will review the same content. They have divided the meetings up by school to provide physical distancing in the gym. Try to attend the meeting designated for AHES, but you CAN attend a different session if the day/time works better for you.

OUSD Open Enrollment 2022-2023

K-12 OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR

OPEN FROM JANUARY 17-31, 2022

Open Enrollment is for students who would like to attend a school other than their home school, assigned based upon their area of residence. You may find your "home" school by looking up your address at SchoolLocator at http://apps.schoolsitelocator.com/?districtcode=57964.

Open Enrollment applications for K-12 grades will be available online between January 17-January 31, 2022. Please complete your online application during this time period. Schools will have computers available for your convenience. Fill out your application completely and submit one application per school that you would like to attend. You may submit an application to as many schools as you like, one application per school.

Open Enrollment closes on January 31, 2022 at 4:00 P.M. School sites will hold a lottery and notify families of their lottery number, beginning February 03, 2022. Once the number of openings in a school is determined, the school will start notifying families, starting with the first person on the list and offer them a spot in their school. Parents may accept or deny the offer. If denied the school will move on to the next person on the list and parents may not change their mind once they have denied.

If you wish to request Open Enrollment for the current school year, please contact Student and Community Services at 714-628-5424.

AHES PRIDE Awards Student Recipents & Marquee Information

Our school site enjoyed participating in our first AHES Panther PRIDE Student of the Month Awards. It was great for the whole school to hear our Panthers of the Month names and be able to celebrate them. Our Panther PRIDE Students of the Month will see their names on our Marquee through January 21st. Next week we plan on posting pictures of our Panther Students of the Month in our newsletter.

We are so excited to have the opportunity to increase the opportunity to recognize students throughout the entire school year. We will announce January Panther Pride Students of the Month the week of January 24th with their names on the marquee by the end of that week. To learn more about Panther PRIDE Awards, you can visit page 4 of our AHES handbook.
