Great Things!
Thank you to everyone that helped make Friday smooth with the many many subs we had in our building. You all rocked it! (and thank you to the staff that participated in the training for leaving solid plans for your classroom staff and subs!)
Dental day was awesome! We utilized a new group, and they saw 42 students! Thank you to Laura E.G. for planning, organizing, and executing a successful screening day!
Parent committee was fantastic this week as well! Great turn out, parents were laughing and smiling, and good conversations were had! Shout out to Chelsea for orchestrating a fabulous meeting!
Thank you to Bonnie and Connie for providing childcare during our parent committee! That was super helpful, and parents were able to really pay attention and get involved in the meeting knowing that their kids were safe!
Fire drills (while I botched the notification of this) went really well! You all left the building quietly and orderly, and the system went well! Nice job!
Looking forward to welcoming Kathy back to our HGECC kitchen on October 2nd. We continue to wish her well and look forward to her return!
Bailey had her baby! See pics below! They are all doing well.
Thank you to our staff members that received perfect attendance for the entire school year last year for winning our breakfast on the 24th! Feel free to stop by the lounge after 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday for some yummy breakfast! If you see the following people, tell them thanks for being here every day last year: Tressie, Karla, Melanie, Marian Light, Tammy McDonald, and Michelle Sloan.
Challenge: This week take a look at your classroom jobs. Are they useful? Are they meaningful? Does it contribute to the greater good of the class? Examine your jobs and be sure they meet these checkpoints. Classroom jobs should build self worth, inclusion, unity, and responsibility. If you are unsure or need some ideas, check out Shubert's classroom on the CD website.

Speech and Language Tip of the Week:
Spend some extra time focusing on descriptive concepts. Place objects on the table and see if your kids can describe something about it. Is it fuzzy, tiny, spotted, striped, bumpy, smooth, red, ugly, round? So many ways to describe things! Descriptive words are what make our language rich and full!
Fine Motor Tip of the Week:
Lacing and weaving
These activities can help our students develop fine and visual motor skills and bilateral coordination.
- String beads or pasta shapes onto a pipe cleaner (a pipe cleaner is easier to thread than string).
- Thread a pipe cleaner through a stiff lacing card.
- Create lacing cards to fit an activity or theme- i.e. cut out pumpkin from construction paper and hole punch the edge, lace with yarn.
- Weave ribbons through a wire cooling rack as part of a sensory bin theme.
