Terra Linda Tiger Tale
September 24, 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Terra Linda Families,
I hope you were able to attend Curriculum Night with your child's teacher(s) last night. If you missed it, teachers will be sending out a video link along with their slide presentations so that you can view these at your convenience.
Below, I've added a welcome video from me as well as an overview of PE, Music and our Wellness Wednesday lessons. Please take a few minutes to watch each of their short videos as more context Comprehensive Distance Learning.
I've also included a video of an Alicia Keys song as performed by One Voice. If you haven't seen it yet...tissue warning...you may want to grab a box. Even though you may not always feel it, you are doing a good job for your children, your family, our school and community. Thank you for making Terra Linda such a wonderful community and school.
As a reminder, if you place a book on hold from the Terra Linda Library by Monday night, you can pick up the books on Thursdays between 11:00am and 12:00pm during our weekly Grab & Go events. Go to this link: https://library4.nwtoolbox.org/common/servlet/presentloginform.do?fromLoginLink=true and click on BSD User Login to place books on hold. Watch the video linked below for how to place books on hold.
Thank you for all you are doing to help your students login each day on Zoom and engage with their teacher and classmates in online learning. Without you, we could not make this happen!
With appreciation,
Christy

More about Math Fluency
Last week we forgot to attach the video about Math Fluency. Below is the original video plus a second video from Christina Tondevold. Watch closely for the visual in the video with 6+7 and all of the connections (like the pathways in the brain) that help students understand why 6+7=13 and how that is connected to 6+6, counting, visuals, etc.
She emphasizes the connections between facts and how discussions help students to build their mathematical mind. What discussions could you have at home with your children about math?

Behavioral Health
Lines for Life has recently launched a COVID-19 Emotional Support Line that is also being tapped to receive calls regarding the wildfires. Callers do not have to be in crisis to utilize this line and access supportive listening, compassion, and connection to resources. This line is 24/7 and the number is 855-238-8644 (non-800-number version is 503-575-3761)
