Note from the principal
I want to begin by saying thank you to all who participated and attended our First Annual Autumn Pumpkin Stroll. It was a great night and very well attended. I hope that all who came enjoyed their time with friends and family and also enjoyed the pizza, donuts and s'mores! A special thank you to all of our teachers and staff who assisted and attended the event and to our Facilities Director and custodial crew for all their assistance in getting the event set up. I look forward to more opportunities to gather students and families together!
It is very hard to believe that we are already heading into the month of November. There are a number of things happening for MMS in the month of November. Please take time to review this newsletter to be up to date on all things MMS!

8th Grade Thanksgiving Boxes!
You will see this same information below in the Grade 8 news but I wanted to spotlight this special cause and the work of our Grade 8 Students and Staff. Please support the best you can!
Grade 8 Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Millis Food Pantry provides an invaluable service to community members who are struggling to make ends meet. For many years, Millis Middle School led by Grade 8 has assisted the Millis Food Pantry by providing Thanksgiving dinners to families .
Grade 8 is seeking donations for the “fixings”: non perishable items like potatoes, stuffing, gravy, vegetables, desserts and cranberry sauce.
DONATIONS ARE NEEDED BY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16th to the Middle School Office
Please support our grade 8 students in their efforts to help out this Thanksgiving!

Picture Retake day will be Wednesday, November 16th. Students who would like a retake must return their original Portrait Package to the photographer on Retake Day.

Parent Conferences will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd and Thursday, November 3rd from 12:00 to 2:30 and on Wednesday, November 9th from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
Principal's Coffee
On the two half day conferences, I will be hosting a coffee in my office, please feel free to stop by for conversation and a cup. The office is small but feel free to stop by if you'd like.

NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I hope that this newsletter finds everyone well. There are lots of great things happening here at MMS and we are excited about some of our upcoming events for students and families. We recently conducted elections for our Student Council Group and are looking forward to the work that the group will be doing to continue the great traditions and create some new traditions here at MMS.
Please continue to read below as we have loads of information about: the Pumpkin Carving Contest, the Autumn Pumpkin Stroll, Clubs, Late Bus for after school activities, our upcoming MMS Spirit Week and Parent Conferences!

OUR FIRST ANNUAL PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST - AUTUMN PUMPKIN STROLL IS NEXT WEEK!!
October 27, 2022
6 - 8 pm
Students who were selected to participate in our First Annual Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest will be creating their pumpkins after school on Wednesday, October 26th in the school cafe. Students will need a way to get home but can stay until they have completed their pumpkin.
On Thursday, 10/27/22 from 6:00 - 8:00pm we will be hosting the first annual Autumn Pumpkin Stroll where our student's pumpkins will be voted on to determine the top three prizes. Please have your cellphone with you as we will do our voting through a QR code system. We are hoping for great weather, but the event will happen rain or shine.
Please come and enjoy the pumpkin stroll and some food and live music in our bus loop. A map of the event and flow will be sent out next week. This event is free but any donation is appreciated. Donation buckets will be present at the event.

SPIRIT WEEK - OCTOBER 24TH - 28TH!!
Next week we will be having a Spirit Week. Here are the days:
Monday = Beach Day (wear your favorite Hawiian shirt or appropriate beach attire.)
Tuesday = Hat Day/Crazy Hat Day
Wednesday = Wacky Wednesday
Thursday = Pajama Day
Friday = Millis Pride Day
Parent Conference Information - November 2nd, 3rd and 9th!
Parent Conferences will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd and Thursday, November 3rd from 12:00 to 2:30 and on Wednesday, November 9th from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
A SchoolMessenger will be sent out later this evening with links to sign-up for conferences. There will be links in that document that provide you access to teachers and sign-up sheets for conference slots. When you click on the link, please read the directions carefully on how to sign up for your conferences.

NEWSLETTER - WEEK ENDING 10/14/22
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hope that everyone is doing well and that you have been enjoying the fall weather over the past few weeks. Things continue to go well here at MMS with lots of fun and creative things happening in and out of the classroom. As a point of information, MMS will be mailing home individual results from last spring's MCAS testing. Those results will be sent out today. As well, we have reached the halfway point of the first Trimester. Grades will close today for teachers to complete progress reports. We will be sending a copy of your student's progress report home with them at the end of next week. Hard to believe that we are halfway through the first Trimester, time is flying by for sure. Finally, I wanted to remind everyone that our Autumn Pumpkin Stroll Family Event is in two weeks. We have accepted 30 participants in our Pumpkin Carving Contest and look forward to a great event on Thursday, October 27th from 6:00 to 8:00pm. You won't want to miss it! Hope to see you there!

NEWSLETTER - WEEK ENDING 10/7/22
It is hard to believe that we have been back to school for a month. It has been a great month and students are settling into their school routines. There are a ton of great things happening in classrooms and students and teachers have been enjoying getting to know each other. It is shaping up to be a GREAT year! Please take time to review the information below. There are a number of things happening and we will be starting our after school activities this week, information about all of the offerings can be found below. Just a quick note regarding after school activities, at this time there will be no late bus. We are working on being able to provide a late bus for students on Wednesdays. GRADE 7
7th grade students should be checking Powerschool for assignment completion. Usernames and passwords were sent home for parents and students. They should also be utilizing the Google Calendar each day for homework assignments and upcoming events.
GRADE 8
GR8 has sent home permission slips for our annual trip to Trinity Theater in Providence. We are so excited to be going back in person to see Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". The trip is set for Dec 21, and $25 per student is due by Oct 28. This is a culminating activity that the students will participate in after reading the play in ELA class.

The Big M is back with our first episode! Katherine LaDuke and Joe Barisano spent some time in our studio with Principal Duprey. Check it out!

UPCOMING FUN EVENTS
First Annual Pumpkin Decorating/Carving Contest
Students get ready! The First Annual Pumpkin Decorating/Carving contest is here! Entry forms are now available. You will have the opportunity to submit an entry form with your design to Ms. Radcliffe. Student will be chosen to participate in the actual contest, selected from their entry form. Students can enter as individuals or as a team. The pumpkins will be displayed for voting the evening of October 27th at the Autumn Pumpkin Stroll. There will be three prizes. First place will win a $100.00 gift card to Kravings, second place will be a $75 dollar gift card and third place will be a $50.00 gift card. All MMS students are welcome to submit an entry form. Forms will be available in the Main Office and in Ms. Radcliffe's Room 215. Let's make this a GREAT event!
Autumn Pumpkin Stroll - October 27, 2022 (6:00pm to 8:00pm)
SAVE THE DATE! - We are excited to be hosting the First Annual Pumpkin Stroll. This will be a MMS Family event that is the culmination of our First Annual MMS Pumpkin Decorating/Carving Contest! Student work will be on display on the outside walkway (weather permitting) and attendees will be invited to vote for their favorite. The top three vote getters will receive a gift card to Kravings. There is no cost to attend this event, if you would like to provide a donation pumpkin buckets will be available for any donation. Please save the date, there will be live music, wood fired pizza, cider donuts and warm cider and s'mores! This is going to be a fun event for the MMS Community. More info to come as the event gets closer, you won't want to miss it!

OCTOBER
MMS Extracurricular Activities will begin next week, October 3rd. Any student interested in participating can join. There is NO sign-up or permission slip required to participate in these activities. At this time there is no late bus available. We are working on being able to provide a late bus for students on Wednesdays but that is not available at this time. We will notify families when the late bus becomes available. At this time activities are open to walkers or students who have parental pick-up available. Thank you for your patience!
