Hispanic Heritage Month Begins
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Wildlight students listened to Lucia the Luchadora and the Million Masks in the library. As part of their library rotations, students made Lucha Libre masks and showed off their fiercest wrestler poses.
Aesop’s Fables
Mrs. Whicker’s 3rd graders at Emma Love Hardee analyzed the plot and characters in two of Aesop’s fables! Students contributed to an anchor chart detailing Rising Action, Climax, and Resolution, then decided which character displayed which trait! They loved this quick little “game!”
Students of the Month
When Emma Love Hardee's Little Pirates follow the school-wide expectations around campus, they earn Pirate Praises!
Names are drawn monthly for Student of the Month. Students receive ice cream with Ms. Smith, the principal, and Mrs. Clark, the assistant principal!
Congratulations to the Students of the Month for August!

CSI: Critter Scene Investigation
The third graders at Yulee Elementary have recently been learning about living things and how they survive in their respective environments. The new benchmark curriculum discussed animal adaptations and how they pass down certain features to help them survive where they live. Last Friday, students had a CSI: Critter Scene Investigation that needed to be solved, and students transformed into detectives to crack the case of the missing critters.
There have been crimes in the woods! Many small critters have gone missing, but they have several suspects. Their primary suspect was the owl. To begin their investigation, they researched the diet of owls and their typical behaviors. Students read a non-fiction text to gain more knowledge about the owl. They were tasked with determining if the owl’s alibi of being an herbivore was true. In their text, they were able to find relevant details to support their claim. Once they completed our research, one of our fellow agents sent over some evidence (owl pellets) located near the owl’s home. Students dissected the owl pellets and found bones of the missing critters that the owl could not digest. They cracked the case! Now the owl will pay the consequences.
Students thoroughly enjoyed this activity, which will be a lesson they will remember for a long time.
Math Time
Mrs. Anderson’s class at Yulee Primary is working hard during Math. They are practicing their partner talk and using manipulatives during independent centers.
STEM Challenge
While visiting the Emma Love Hardee media center, Fourth-grade Pirates worked together to build classroom community and practice character skills. Students cheered each other on, focusing on optimistic outlooks during their STEM challenge of designing planes that would travel the farthest. Students recorded the distance traveled and reflected on how they showed optimism.
Wear Red for Vets
Callahan Elementary teachers and staff wear red for the deployed veterans!
Top Readers
Mrs. Taylor’s class won “top AR” for Callahan Elementary!
Hope Squad
Fernandina Beach High Hope Squad participated in Suicide Prevention Week by making informative morning announcements, sidewalk chalking the campus with inspirational messages, and helping students send #BeThe1To to say thank you postcards to their "lifesavers" (supportive people in their life).
Sticky Math
Mrs. Miller's 2nd Grade Class at Yulee Primary was caught in a "sticky" situation during math. The students enjoyed using the sticky hands during math to match the Standard Form of the number with the word form.
Music & Motions Math
5th-grade students in Mr. Alvarez’s classroom at Hilliard Elementary make learning how to divide fun through music and motions!
