This is the last RPS Weekly Message for the 2022-2023 school year. We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and relaxing summer break.

New Staff Announcements
Dr. Sara Zabrowski-Gates
Ralston Public Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Sara Zabrowski-Gates as the new Director for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Zabrowski-Gates will begin work on/about July 1st.
Dr. Zabrowski-Gates has had many experiences throughout her educational career. She has worked across several school districts with many administrators, teachers, and students as a classroom teacher and currently as an Educational Consultant at ESU#3. She is excited to be able to work with our educators, lending her skills and expertise to help empower and support them to excel professionally and provide the best educational experience for our students.
Dr. Zabrowski-Gates earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Creighton University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane College, an Endorsement in School Administration from Wayne State College, and an Education Specialist Degree from Doane University, and a Doctorate in Education from Doane University. Dr. Zabrowski-Gates has also been an Adjunct Instructor at Concordia and Doane University.
Mrs. Melanie Reeves
Ralston Public Schools is pleased to announce Mrs. Melanie Reeves as the new Instructional Coach at Karen Western Elementary. Melanie is no stranger to RPS, as her husband Mr. Mel Reeves, is an educator at Ralston High School. Melanie will begin her new position at the start of the 2023/2024 school year.
Melanie brings 33 years of educational experience to RPS. She believes in helping other educators utilize, build, and strengthen their talents and strengths to help them continue to grow in the profession.
Melanie feels very fortunate to have worked in a variety of settings and districts and feels she has grown from each experience. Since 2004, she has been with Louisville Public Schools as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher, 5th/6th grade Science Teacher, and Social Studies teacher. Melanie also was an elementary teacher at Cedar Rapids Elementary in Nebraska and an upper elementary Special Education teacher at Tongue River Elementary in Ranchester, Wyoming.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with Special Endorsements in Exceptional Generalist K-6, Exceptional Generalist 5-8, and Early Childhood Education from Chadron State College, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and a Master of Education in Literacy with English as a Second Language Endorsement from Concordia University.
Mr. Chris Murphy
Ralston Public Schools is pleased to announce Mr. Chris Murphy as the new Maintenance Supervisor. Chris is working and learning the new job with Ray Smith throughout the next two weeks. He will take over the week of May 29th.
Chris will have a variety of duties assigned to him in his new position. Some of his main duties include custodial staff management and training, custodial supplies, and building security management.
Chris has been with the Ralston Public Schools maintenance department since August 2019. Before RPS, he spent time at Papillion La Vista High School and CSG in Omaha.
We are excited to welcome Dr. Zabrowski-Gates and Mrs. Melanie Reeves to the Ram Family. Congratulations to Mr. Murphy on his new role with the district and we wish Mr. Smith all the best in retirement.
Class of 2023 Graduation Ceremony Live on YouTube
The Ralston High School Class of 2023 graduation ceremony will be live-streamed via the District’s YouTube channel. The graduation ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 21st, starting at 2:00 pm at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

Register Today - Fourth through Sixth Grade Summer Camp
All RPS students entering grades four through six for the 2023-2024 school year will have the chance to participate in the RPS Summer Camp. This fun, unique, and FREE opportunity will have a variety of activities for students focused on building and enhancing reading and math skills. The activities are provided by community partners, Ralston High School coaches, and student leaders.
RPS Summer Camp will also have reading challenges, opportunities to check out and win books, and so much more! And remember, this is all FREE for Ralston Public Schools students!
Dates and Times
June 13-15 from 1 - 3 pm at Seymour Elementary School
Programming Schedule
Session 1 (June 13): Spheros Coding w/ ESU#3. Derek and Dawn from ESU#3 will lead a fun and interactive session on coding. Students will test their skills on mini robots called spheros.
Session 2 (June 14): RHS Mini-Sports Camps. Coaches and players from several of Ralston High School’s athletic programs will lead students through several mini-sports camps. They will work with the students on skill development and proper sportsmanship through fun games and drills. Students will have the opportunity to participate in multiple sports throughout the session.
Session 3 (June 15): Prairie STEM and Spark Positivity. Students will explore space and under the sea through virtual reality headsets led by Prairie STEM staff. Students will also learn about social emotional regulation by exploring related apps on the VR headsets

Athletic Summer Camps & RPS All Sports Camp - Register Today
Does your student love sports? Does your student enjoy being with friends, having fun, and participating in different activities? Make sure to sign them up for the RPS Youth All Sports Camp!
It takes place on Wednesday, May 24th, from 7:45 am to 12:00 pm for students going into 2nd - 6th grade at Ralston High School. The camp is FREE! Breakfast and lunch are available to participants. Scan the QR code in the flyer or click the link below to register today!

RPS Summer Food Distribution


RHS Food Pantry Distribution Will Remain Throughout the Summer
Ralston High School will continue to host its monthly food distribution throughout the summer. The dates will be June 6th, June 27th, and August 1st. These events are in partnership with the Food Bank for the Heartland.
Families can begin to line up at 4:00 pm at Ralston High School (8969 Park Drive) in the main parking lot on the east side of the school. The food distribution will go from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.
It will be a drive-through distribution, so you will not need to get out of your car. Ralston High School staff volunteers will direct individuals on where to park and help with the food distribution.
2023-2024 School Year Calendar
Below is information on changes approved by the Board of Education to the 2023-2024 school year calendar.
• August 10 2023: First day of school for only Pre-K, Kindergarten, 7th and 9th grade (1:30 pm dismissal).
• August 11, 2023: All students report. It will be a regular early dismissal day.
• January 3, 2024: Staff and students will start the second semester together.
• March 8, 2024: No School - Professional learning/collaborative plan day.
• March 11, 2024: No School
• March 29, 2024: No School
• May 23, 2024: Last day of school

OneWorld Mobile Health Clinic to Offer Sports Physicals
Starting in May, the OneWorld Mobile Health Clinic will begin to offer sports physicals to Ralston Middle School and Ralston High School students. This will benefit RPS students. They will be able to receive their sports physicals early and will not have to leave their school campus to receive their sports physicals for the 2023-2024 school year.
Parents can schedule students’ sports physicals after May 1st by calling the OneWorld Mobile Health Clinic number at 402-880-4870. As a reminder, the OneWorld Mobile Health Clinic is located at RHS every Tuesday from 8 am to 3:30 pm and at Ralston Middle School every Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm.
SORA Summer Reading App
Our District Media Specialists would like to take this opportunity to share with you information about the SORA Reading App. Sora is an app for students to read books they pick and that their teachers assign. The app allows you to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from your school's library. The setup is simple - find your school and sign in. Then download or stream your favorite books to your device.
