Two GHS Students Rank Among Highest PSAT Scores Nationwide
In September, Gainesville High School received official notification from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that one of our students was named a Semifinalist in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Dillon Edington, a senior at GHS, was one of approximately 16,000 students nationwide to achieve this recognition. In addition, Mattie Sherwin was one of 34,000 to achieve the status of Commended. These results are based on PSAT scores taken last year.
Edington and Sherwin were recognized at the Board of Trustees meeting on October 15. They were each presented with a framed certificate and a GISD Excellence coin.
Superintendent's Student Advisory Council
The Gainesville High School Superintendent Advisory Council (SAC) gathered together for the first meeting of the year on Wednesday, October 17. The SAC is an organized group of students who will meet with Dr. Stewart monthly to discuss important topics within Gainesville High School. These students are empowered to be the student voice, giving valuable input and engaging in productive conversation with Dr. Stewart throughout the year.
The GHS culinary class, under the direction of Mrs. Kristal Young, prepared and served a three course lunch for everyone in attendance at the meeting.
