Cesar Chavez

César Chávez Day

On March 31 we celebrate the birthday of a great Californian, César Chávez. He was a farm worker, a labor leader, a community servant, a crusader for nonviolent social change, an environmentalist, and consumer advocate. Please honor his memory in your classrooms the week before his birthday since March 31 is a Saturday. Hopefully you can use the resources below to find new and innovative ways to share his legacy with your students. The entire district is encouraged to share innovative ideas and pictures over the next several weeks using the hashtag: #SVUSDCelebratesCesarChavez.

Lock Down Review

Lock Down Review

We will be having a full lock down drill before the end of year. Please review the procedures with your students. When discussing the reason for a lock down, keep it more general. You could share that it is a way to keep us safe if a dangerous person or animal comes on campus. We don't need to specifically talk about a shooter.

Classroom Procedures:

  • Lock all doors.

  • Close all blinds.

  • Have students gather in an inconspicuous location in the classroom.

  • Turn off the lights.

  • Hold on to your roll.
