The Scorch Trials is the second book in the Maze Runner series. The main characters are Thomas, Newt, Minho, Brenda, Jorge, and Teresa. They are put into trials by W.I.C.K.E.D. and they have to spend 2 weeks in a scorching desert surrounded by Cranks(people infected with a fatal disease: the Flare). Somehow, they have to make it to a safe haven that's 100 miles away with little food and water. Find out if they make it in: The Scorch Trials.

Thomas is the main character in the Maze Runner series. Thomas has been through a lot for being just a teenager. First he solves the maze, then he endures the Scorch, and finally, we find out if he can find a cure for the Flare disease. He worked for W.I.C.K.E.D. before he had his memory wiped and was put into the maze. Thomas adds some spice to the story because he's a very interesting person.

Teresa can communicate with Thomas by using their minds, however with W.I.C.K.E.D. controlling Teresa's brain at times, it's tough to be safe around her. Thomas and Teresa were friends before their memories were wiped and remained friends in the maze and the Scorch. There is some competition when Thomas meets the touchy-feely Brenda.

Brenda and Thomas meet in the Scorch, and she helps him stay safe from the Cranks and any other dangers that could be out there. Brenda helps navigate him to the safe haven as long as Thomas promises to help save her from the Flare virus.

The Scorch Trials is a great example of Science Fiction because it has many scientific elements and it's not real.
