Weekly News-2.3.23

HUMAN GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT

This upcoming week fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will receive instruction on human growth and development, as part of the yearly health curriculum . Classes will be taught by the Physical Education teacher and the school nurse. We understand that these can be difficult conversations to have with your students, but they are of great importance to our children’s health.

Additional resources for parents are provided in the attached letter under the grade level topics if you are looking to further these conversations at home.

REPORT CARDS

On Monday, February 6th, parents will be able to view their child’s Standards-Based Report Card, through our Home Access Center. The report cards will be open for viewing after 4:00 pm on this day. As always, teachers are available to meet or discuss should you have questions or concerns about the report card.

ATTENTION WALKERS- AM ARRIVAL

As a reminder, adult supervision does not begin at Hillcrest until 8:50AM. To that point, we are requesting that walkers arrive closer to 9AM. This will allow walkers to enter the building upon arrival, rather than waiting outside the school when arriving before 8:50AM.

ATTENTION CARRIDERS-AM ARRIVAL

As a reminder, supervision does not begin until 8:50AM. To that point we are requesting that all students remain in their cars until you see the adult on duty exit the building at 8:50AM.

Please do not drop off students in front of the building when there is no adult supervision present. This is a major safety issue because there is a continuous movement of vehicles in front the building during this time. Even a few minutes early can be detrimental during this busy time.

Welcome Maggie Wawrzyniak

Ms. Wawrzyniak is our new Monday/Friday nurse. She's replacing Mrs. Acosta who moved to another district earlier in the year. Maggie understands that her last name might be challenging to remember/pronounce; therefore students can call her Ms. W.

Hillcrest Is ROARING about “PAWS”ITIVE BEHAVIOR

We were so excited to see so many ROAR TICKET WINNERS come to the main office to Sign the Celebrity Book and Join the Principal's 100 Club. Each student selected a numbered paw and found their place on the P100 Board for a chance to win the Mystery Motivator.

The following children earned ROAR tickets for their exemplary work related to following our ROAR Rules. Congratulations!

KEY MOMENTS DERSERVE KUDOS!

This year Dr. Sanko has introduced the concept of KEYS in CRSD. He noted that these keys are critical in the success of our school district and no matter the role, everyone plays a KEY ROLE! To that point, I will be catching KEY WORTHY moments throughout the school year with students and staff. There will be a new addition to our weekly newsletters that will acknowledge someone and their KEY MOMENT that made a difference at HILLCREST!

Congratulations to Mrs. Jainnini. Mrs. Jainnini was "KEY" in operating our school office over the last 3 weeks while we were transitioning our new secretary. In collaboration with Mrs. Kunzig, she went above and beyond to ensure that everything was in full operation in the office.

CRSD CELL PHONE/SMART WATCH POLICY

During the holidays, students may have received SMART WATCHES or other electronic devices as presents. While these devices are awesome; please keep in mind that all Electronic Devices are against our District Policy. Even if text/phone usage is disabled on these devices, many still have the capability of taking photos & accessing the internet, etc. As a result, they are not permitted to be worn during the school day. All electronic devices should be turned off and remain in backpacks if they are brought to school.

Excerpt from CRSD/HCE Parent Handbook

The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day or on the school bus (Section 1317.1 PA School Code). Students, who possess cell phones, must secure them in their backpacks/schoolbags throughout the school day, turned off, not silent or vibrate. This eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction.

Students may not use cell phones during lunch, recess or breaks. Cell phones are to remain off during the school day, including the school bus. In the event a student uses a cell phone (calling, texting, photographing or otherwise) or the phone rings, during the school day, the student will be asked to turn the cell phone off before releasing to staff. Following, the cell phone should be picked up by a parent/guardian/designated adult at their earliest convenience, in the main office during school hours. The Council Rock School District assumes no responsibility for cell phones or other electronic devices that are lost,

stolen or broken.

All questions regarding student lunch accounts should be sent to the Chartwells staff at www.HCECafeteria@CRSD.org. Click on the below link to preview the monthly menu and nutritional information.
