Dealing With Digital Drama
Monday, October 5th and Tuesday, October 6th we will have a series of meetings at BHS related to online issues facing our students. With the increasing access to everything online, there is a lot of responsibility for a young person to handle - and for parents to monitor. Our guest will be Jennifer Schiffman, a Missouri prevention specialist dealing with cyber crimes and other online issues. She will meet with students on Monday and Tuesday during the school day.
There will also be a parent meeting Monday night from 6:30-7:30PM in the auditorium. During the parent meeting, there will be a discussion of cyberbullying along with other digital dilemmas that can occur. You'll walk away with resources to help you keep up with new technology, deal with digital drama including sexting and online offenders, and put a plan in motion in case of emergency. At the high school level, there is a need to manage social media now so it doesn't impact the student's future.
We hope you will attend as we've heard great things about Jennifer and the information she presents. We believe the workshop will be very beneficial to parents as you work to help your student make positive choices in our digital world.

Makerspace under construction at BHS
With the arrival of the 1:1 Chromebook program at BHS, our former computer labs are now serving new purposes. One of the labs is now home to Mr. Jones and the Digital Imaging classes, including yearbook. The computer lab adjacent to the library is undergoing it's own transformation into a makerspace, a place for creating, exploring, designing, and more.
The article linked below explains a little more about the maker movement and how it can benefit our students as lifelong learners and innovative thinkers.
7 Things You Should Know About Makerspaces
The development of our makerspace is under the guidance of Mrs. Wooderson, our Library Media Specialist. However, students have worked hard and contributed ideas and effort to see the project off to a great start.
