Team Howlers News:

A/B Day Schedule:

In trying to prepare the students for 7th/8th grade, we have started using A/B scheduling. A/B scheduling is where students will flip their academic schedules every other week. Related arts classes will remain the same regardless of if it is an A or B week This week was the first time that we flipped our schedule. The students did really well with this. Students are on a B week schedule this week, which is: 6th, 5th, Lunch, 4th, and 3rd period. Next week is a A week, which is a normal schedule: 3rd, 4th, Lunch, 5th, and 6th. We have signs posted outside our doors to help ease the students into this process.

Parent Portal Information:

Please make sure you check Parent Portal ( to see how your child is doing in his/her classes. If you should have a question about grades, please contact your child’s teacher directly.

General Team News:

With this being the beginning of the third nine weeks, please make sure that your child has replenished his/her notebook paper and pencils. If your child is ever out, please make sure to check each teachers’ websites for material covered in class that day. If you have any questions or concerns that are subject specific, please contact that teacher.

District Calendar Survey:

The district is about to start the process of developing the academic calendar for the 2016/17 school year. Before they start the 2016/17 draft calendar process, they'd like to get your opinion.

Here's the link that will take you to the calendar survey: The survey is best viewed using Google Chrome, but will work on any browser.

This week in science we will be learning about the greenhouse effect and how solar energy affects land vs. water to start off the week. Near the end of the week we will discuss the weather on a global scale and how solar energy from the sun plays a huge factor in determining the weather on a daily basis.

This content is pretty new to students thus it’s important that they are studying at home to ensure their success in this unit.

Assessments: Friday students will complete an EOW quiz on greenhouse effect, land vs. water, climate regions, global winds and jet streams.

Once and Future King by T. H. White - GT Classes Only (3rd and 4th Periods):

This nine weeks students in my GT classes will be reading Part One of the Once and Future King by T. H. White. This goes along with the middle ages unit that students are getting ready to begin in social studies with Mr. Pauley. We will begin reading this book the week of February 1. I do not have enough copies for every student to take home. I am working on finding a free solution for students to be able to use if they have access to an iPad or Kindle. I should have an update by next Monday as to whether or not this will be able to work. Please let me know if you would have any questions.

3rd 9 Weeks Independent Reading Project: Students are to select a novel to read independently this nine weeks. Students should show this novel to me to make sure that it is approved. All students went to the media center last week to check out books. Students were given a sheet on today, explaining the project. Students will have to complete one 60 point and one 40 point activity for the book they are reading. There are several activities for the students to choose from. This project will be due on Friday, March 11. Here is a link to the information about this project that students were given in class today:

If your child needs some help choosing a book to read, he/she can come to me for some suggestions or you may go to - there are several options to search by such as: similar book to one they liked or by series.
