Winding Down
Teachers are the heart and soul of Glenwood. These dedicated teachers devote an enormous amount of time to ensure that our students can all develop the skills they need to advance in their academic careers and beyond. Every teacher goes the extra mile, not only for their homeroom students, but all of our students. You would be hard pressed to find a harder working and caring staff. We are a lucky community!
Assistant Principal- We are lucky to have Mr. Gauvin who heads up our special education department and ensures the daily Glenwood Pledge is followed by all of our students.
Paraprofessionals-Where would we be without our paraprofessionals and ABAs? They are determined to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to have their academic needs met. They do so with a smile on their face and a loving heart.
Secretary- Mrs.O'Coin and her assistant, Mrs. Gridley, what a team. They greet everyone with a smile and keep Glenwood organized and running seamlessly.
Nurse-Mrs. Lawton is always ready with a thermometer and band aids when necessary. She also supports our medically fragile students.
Custodians- We are so lucky to have this amazing custodial crew. Not only does our school sparkle, but they are always ready to assist any teacher or staff member with any project.
School Psychologist- Dr. Liubovich is key to the social emotional health of our students.
Support Staff-Speech Pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists and their assistants work tirelessly to meet the needs of our students.
Cafeteria- Healthy lunches are prepared by our knowledgeable cafeteria staff. Their dedication to the health of our students is key. Each lunch is a balanced meal prepared by our crew.
PTO Board- The PTO consists of parents who volunteer an enormous amount of time to ensure Glenwood students not only have extra-curricular activities, but are also exposed to cutting edge technology. The PTO has sponsored the Pizza Party, the Basket Bonanza, the monthly after school movies and Family STEAM Night. They will staff Field Day and the fifth grade celebration with enough volunteers, Throughout this year they have run countless fundraisers to support our students. We could not do this without the support of our PTO we want to take this opportunity to say, THANK YOU!
Parent Volunteers-Parents have volunteered to work in classrooms weekly, assist teachers in making copies, chaperone field trips, participate in the Immigration Simulation, run Field Day activities, be a part of Family STEAM Night and the Pizza Party, chaperone our monthly after-school movies, organize and run our fifth grade celebration, and countless other activities. We could not possibly enjoy the extra curricular activities without our parent volunteers.
Rutland DPW crews keep our roads clear and are always ready to assist us with any project we need.
Rutland Police and Fire Departments- We have developed a strong partnership with our safety officers. From the third grade fire prevention program to our bullying presentation as well as our "High Five Friday," the fire and police departments have become an integral part of the Glenwood community.
Rutland Recreation supports all of the extra curricular activities and the after school clubhouse program.
Because of you, Glenwood is a great place to work and learn!

Vocabulary Parade
The Vocabulary Parade is based on the book: Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster written and illustrated by Debra Frasier. In this story, Sage, our heroine and a very word-smart fifth grader, publicly confuses the word “miscellaneous,” for the person, “Miss Alaineus.” She is devastated (wasted, ravaged), ruined (destroyed), finished (brought to an end), by this embarrassing mistake. But Sage transforms her mistake with a creative leap when she arrives on the Vocabulary Parade school stage as Miss Alaineus, Queen of All Miscellaneous Things—and thereby proves that her mother was right. There IS gold to be found in every mistake!
This very same Vocabulary Parade came to our school! What a creative group of students we have at Glenwood!

March/April 2018 Health Update
Welcome to the Health Update- I wanted to let you know that we are still seeing cases of the flu this season. We need to continue to follow the same precautions we have been doing to help prevent the spread of the flu. We had a presentation put on by the Wachusett Medical Reserve Corp on Whack The Flu and things you can do to help prevent it.
1. The number one priority is to practice good hand washing at all times. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, especially after sneezing and coughing.
2. Practice good cough and sneezing etiquette by sneezing into a tissue or your elbow instead of your hands. Discard the tissues in the basket and wash your hands again.
3. Avoid people who are sick.
4. If your child is sick, or has flu like symptoms( fever of 100 or above, sore throat, runny nose), please keep your child home from school for at least 24 hours.
5. If your child is sick, please do not medicate them and send them to school- please contact your child’s Physician.
6. If your child has vomited and or had diarrhea within the past 24 hours, please do not send them to school. They need to stay at home for at least 24 hours after vomiting and diarrhea stops for at least 24 hours.
With Spring here and hopefully the weather turning warmer, we will also continue to think of the possibility of head lice and ticks. Head lice can be spread from close contact. Children should not be sharing hair implements, they should also not be sharing helmets and hats from various sports. If you discover your child has head lice- do not send them to school. You will need to notify your MD and they will need to properly treated before returning to school. They will need be checked here before they return to class.
Please be doing daily tick checks on your children as the weather is turning warmer. We have already seen several ticks from the warmer weather we had back in February.
To The Parents of 4th and 5th graders:
Thank You to those who have sent in recent copies of their children’s MD physicals and updated immunizations- I appreciate it! For those of you who haven’t been able to yet- if you could send them along as soon as possible, that would be great!
