The Broad Street Counselor
Updates on School Counseling at Broad Street Elementary
March 2021
It has been a year since our world was turned upside down with a global pandemic. Over the course of the past year, we have seen some major growth in our students, especially in the areas of technology skills and resiliency. While I am sure many of us would have preferred this growth under other circumstances, I am inspired by our Broad Street students and their families for still making education a priority.
March is typically the month in our school counseling program where we focus on relaxation techniques and how to combat stress. I feel as though our students and families have had to become experts in this area given the many stressors in our world. Please take some time to talk to your students about relaxation strategies that work for you, so that our students can see this is an essential lifelong skill and that it is important to talk about how we feel.
As always, let me know if you need any support. Feel free to send me an email to set up a time to connect via phone or Zoom!
Happy Birthday, Gideon!

Attendance is Important
This video helps explain the importance of having students attend school virtually and in-person.
Attendance Works recommends the following tactics for keeping your student in school:
1. Maintain a regular bedtime routine
2. Make medical and dental appointments after school
3. Take vacations over the summer and not during the schoolyear
4. Make your student go to school unless they are truly sick
5. Have a backup plan to get your student to school if something should come up
