MPES Connection

Message from Mrs. Mamon
Hello MPES families,
Our final Cougar Literacy Run numbers are in! The level of support for our first ever virtual Literacy Run exceeded all of our expectations. We had 504 participants, 415 registered in the 5k, and 89 in the 1 mile. Through the generosity of our participants and business sponsors we raised more than $10,000 that will directly impact our MPCS students! Click here to read the final Cougar Literacy Run digital newsletter. See below for a special “Thank You” video, created by Sarah Stark, compiled of the photos and videos shared with us and on social media. Families can also view the entire event photo album here.
This event would not have been as successful as it was without the hard work and creativity of so many people! I would like to especially thank our Literacy Run co-directors, Ms. Jessica McDonald and Mrs. Shannon Washburn, for everything they did to organize this event. I would also like to say a very big thank you to the many teachers and staff members on the Literacy Run committee who assisted with the planning! A special thank you to the BELL Foundation and to our many business and community sponsors for supporting our students and encouraging the love of reading!
In addition to the regular Tuesday meal distribution, MPCS is pleased to offer a Grab & Go pop up Family Market at Manassas Park Middle School on Saturday, May 16, at 11:00 a.m. Volunteers will distribute prepackaged boxes of food into vehicles. This is available for all community members while supplies last. There are no residency requirements.
Please continue to send pictures of our students learning at home or spending time with their families. I love seeing and sharing them in my newsletters! Snap a picture and send it to me at stacey.mamon@mpark.net.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Stacey Mamon
We had 504 participants from around the world take part in our virtual Literacy Run!
Cougar Literacy Run Spirit Week Fun!
Thank you to Ms. McDonald and Mrs. Washburn, our Cougar Literacy Run Co-Directors!
Cell Phone Hotspot Data
Some families have expressed that they may not have high-speed internet access at home. If you have a cell phone, your carrier may have provided you with additional hotspot data for free, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check with your cell phone provider to see what options are available to you.

At Home Learning In Action
Thank you Ms. Paramore!
This week is usually when we have our MPCS K-12 Art Show. While that is not able to happen this year, I want to take the opportunity to recognize our wonderful and talented art teacher, Ms. Brooke Paramore! Ms. Paramore does an outstanding job bringing out the artistic talent in our students and finding ways to showcase their work!
Awesome Readers of the Week!
Field Trip Payments
All field trip money paid for trips that did not take place due to the school closure will automatically be carried over in students’ accounts to be used for future field trips in the 2020-2021 school year. If you would like to request a refund, please contact your child’s principal. This will begin the process of refunding field trip payments. Please understand that refunds, once requested, may take some time to process due to limited processing capabilities during the shutdown.
MPCS Food Distribution Continues
MPCS is providing prepackaged grab-and-go meals at no charge to all children, age 18 and under. Meal pickup will take place on Tuesdays at the main entrance of Manassas Park High School between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
In order to minimize the number of times parents must bring their children to the distribution site, a weekly set of prepackaged breakfasts and lunches will be provided on Tuesdays. All meals will be the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
For the safety of everyone, it is important to follow the guidance supplied by our volunteers to maintain safe social distancing practices and vehicle passage.
Important Message for 5th Grade Families
Below is an important message from Dr. Matt Sieloff, principal of Manassas Park Middle School:
Hello future MPMS students! This message is only for current 5th grade students who will be entering Manassas Park Middle School in the Fall of 2020!
We are excited to announce that we will be scheduling electives for the 2020-21 school year virtually based off of student interests. Below you will find a link to the page with all of the elective choices you have for the upcoming year (2020-2021). We are asking that you fill out your elective interests by completing the form. With this being said, it is easy to get confused, so please read the directions carefully.
Click here for 6th grade elective course requests: https://www.smore.com/a138c
If you have any questions please reach out to your future school counselors: Ms. Roach (aubrey.roach@mpark.net), Ms. Fantahun (saron.fantahun@mpark.net) or Mrs. Yun (shannon.yun@mpark.net)
This should be completed no later than May 15th, so we can begin to create next year’s master schedule. If you do not complete this form, we will assign you electives for 6th grade.
We cannot wait to meet you! And please email if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Dr. Sieloff
