Week 9 - May 18 - May 22: Distance Learning Update

May 22, 2020

Dear Corvallis Families,

We will be entering Week 10 of Distance Learning after our Memorial Day holiday this Monday, May 25th. Please make sure that your student connects with their teachers via Schoology to review and submit any assignments that need to be submitted during the last week of Distance Learning. Teachers will be working to finalize grades.

Remember that NLMUSD has transitioned to Credit / No Credit due to the school closures caused by COVID-19. If students earned an “F” at the end of Quarter 3, they were able to use this time of Distance Learning to improve their grade. However, if your student did not access the work during Distance Learning and did not improve their grade they are in danger of earning a No Credit.

We plan on greeting our 8th grade students during the 8th grade Check-Out on Friday, May 29th and Monday, June 1st. The schedule is posted on our Corvallis website www.corvallisms.org. We will also be releasing videos recognizing our 8th grade students in the days to come. Please stay connected to our social media outlets to access those videos. You can follow us on Instragram @corvallis.school and Twitter @MrsRosales_CMS and @ruvalcaba_dr.

Our Corvallis Family of Teachers is excited to share that they are planning a parade on Monday, June 1st beginning at 4pm to say hello to all our Bulldogs. They will be following social distancing and traffic guidelines and say hello to our Bulldogs from their cars. We will be sending out a more updated route with street names and approximate time of arrival of the parade in that area in the days to come. If you or your student would like to say hello to their Corvallis teachers during the staff parade, I encourage you and your student to follow social distancing guidelines.

Thank you for all that you have done to support your student during these challenging times and we hope to see you, even if it’s from a distance, soon.

In gratitude,

Dr. Ruvalcaba

Week 8 - May 11 - May 15: Distance Learning Update

May 15, 2020

Dear Corvallis Families,

As we enter into the last few weeks of school, I wanted to take the opportunity to express our gratitude for all you have done in this sudden and unplanned transition to Distance Learning. We know this has been an exceptionally challenging time as you managed family, school, and work. Thank you!

All of the schools in Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District worked together to plan how students will return their books, iPads, instruments and other school supplies at the end of the year. Our goal is to provide an efficient collection system while following Social Distancing standards to ensure a safe environment for everyone.

Using the guidelines outlined by the Los Angeles County Office of Education and the LA County Health Department, Corvallis Middle School will begin collecting iPads, books, instruments, and any other school-owned supplies on Friday, May 29th and Monday, June 1st for 8th Grade Students Only. All other non-school items left in lockers may be retrieved on a designated date later (To Be Determined).

During 8th Grade Check-Out on May 29th and June 1st, we request students stay home if they are feeling ill or have a temperature. Students may want to bring a mask. For the safety of all students, parents and staff, we ask families to arrive at Corvallis using the following schedule and to remain in line until your car arrives at the check-out location in the front of the school:

Date - Time: Student Last Name

Friday, May 29th - 8:30 - 11:30: A-D

Friday, May 29th - 12:00 - 3:00: E-L

Monday, June 1st - 8:30 - 11:30: M-Re

Monday, June 1st - 12:00-3:00: Ri-Z

When returning materials, families will drive through a designated route in the parking lot. When your vehicle arrives at the specific stations, students will place their items on a designated table. At this time, Corvallis Middle School will distribute your Promotion Certificate and other awards you have earned this year.

All 6th and 7th grade students will continue to hold their iPad, books, and instruments until a later date. They will also receive their yearbook at a later date.

We understand this process cannot fully replace the time-honored traditions of End-Of-Year festivities. The entire Corvallis Family wishes we, too, could celebrate the close of the 2019-20 school year with you. But our greater desire is for everyone to stay healthy and safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at nruvalcaba@nlmusd.org.

Stay Safe,

Dr. Ruvalcaba

Mantenganse a salvos,

Dra. Ruvalcaba
