Horace Maynard Middle School
Kickin' It with Kilgore:
HMMS FAM1LY,
What an amazing time celebrating Red Ribbon Week at Horace Maynard! The staff and student participation was incredible. We loved seeing the students be creative during dress up days. There was a ton of school spirit at the Pep Rally and for the most part everyone followed expectations! I am extremely proud of our staff and students for their participation in such an important week for our school and community!
Basketball season is now underway! Our school was represented well by our boys and girls basketball teams and our cheerleaders on Thursday night. They competed hard and represented our school well! I am looking forward to cheering them on this season!
Just a reminder for our students on Halloween, costumes can be worn if they follow our dress code at HMMS. There will be no hats, masks, face paint, or props allowed. If a student is out of dress code they will have to call home to get a change of clothes or will need to be picked up. Thank you for your help with this! There will be no after school tutoring on Monday due to it being Halloween.
GO DEVILS, BE REAL!

We are getting into sick season and here are a few reminders of how to prevent the spread of infection. A true fever is 100.4 or higher. Children must be fever free for 24 hrs without medication to be at school. If your child has been actively vomiting they must also be free of episodes for 24 hrs to be at school. Remember to save absences for when your child is truly sick so that we don't run into attendance problems. We all "just don't feel good" sometimes but it is so easy to get behind if they are missing school. We want the best for every student at HMMS so please get them here if they are well.
- You may send a small hand sanitizer with your student
- Add some hard candy to their backpacks for tickles in the throat
- Send a water bottle that will close and can be refilled so that they stay hydrated
- Encourage students to NOT share food or drinks with their friends
- Make sure your child has a good breakfast and lunch-if they don't like the menu options please send something from home
- Make sure your child is getting enough sleep-that is when the body heals and resets
Let's soar right through this season and be the healthiest school in the county. Go Red Devils!
