The setting is late 1930's, early 1940's in Lodz, Frankfurt, Auschwitz, and Buchenwald.

"Why should I write sad pieces"- Erika
Two vocabulary words that were new to me was coup and synagogue.
Coup- Noun-a highly successful, unexpected stroke, act,or move
Synagogue: Noun- A Jewish house of worship, often having facilities for religious instruction.
A significant event in the story is when Auntie Leah and her children get shot.
Auschwitz Concentration Camp
An external conflict is Daniel vs Nazis.
An internal conflict when Daniel is at the pit and says he is going to end up there because he doesn't have enough will to survive.
