Caution - Cell Phone & Social Media Usage
I'd like to ask for your support in monitoring your child's texting and social media usage. This past week, we've seen a notable increase in incident reports that relate to student group text message chains and social media apps, including SnapChat. When these situations lead to disruptions on campus, students may be subject to disciplinary consequences. Students may also be violating cyberbullying statutes, which can have other serious repercussions.
Now is a good time to reinforce family expectations for the responsible use of wireless communication devices and social media, as well as checking in on your student's online profile. We thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe and focused on their academic and social growth in positive ways. This article, from Common Sense Media, offers a perspective on how to set those expectations for school aged children.
Angeline Academy of Innovation Honors Veterans
Our very own Mrs. Livingston dedicated many hours to compile and design a presentation honoring faculty, staff, and Archer family members who served as members of our armed forces. The presentation was shown on our projection wall, as well as during Target Time, in classes. These same images were used to create a wall display honoring our veterans.
Thank you, Mrs. Livingston, for this labor of love that touched so many!
World Cultures Club
Our World Cultures Club, is celebrating the diversity and cultures of our student body. The students researched some upcoming customs, festivals and celebrations and plan put pictures up during these festivals or celebrations highlighting that culture. We'll also showcase their learning and research in our weekly newsletter and posts. This week, students colored Diyas and Rangolis to put up in celebration of Diwali, which kicks off this week and is celebrated on the 12th (Sunday). It is an Indian festival of lights celebrated mainly by Hindus but also Sikhs and Jains. On behalf of our Archer community, we wish a Happy Diwali to all our students and families who celebrate!
Take Stock In Children Program
Take Stock in Children is a statewide program providing an educational pathway for students who meet specific income requirements. Families of eligible students in 9th and 10th grades will receive an information packet in the mail.
"Parents who are worried about their children’s economic futures might want to pay attention to this: According to a report issued in February of this year by the New York Fed, 8 of the 10 college majors with the highest early career median wages are in engineering.
Do I have your attention? If so, answer this quiz question: What high school courses in math and science should your children take to best prepare to succeed as college engineering majors?" - excerpt from guest column by Paul Cottle; photo credit: JEFFEREE WOO | Times (2022)

Students whose academic performance meet specific criteria for additional, targeted interventions will be offered a seat in this free after school program. Participation requires regular attendance. Transportation is not provided for this program.
After School Detention
When a student's actions or pattern of behavior warrant it, we will now begin assigning after school detentions as a disciplinary consequence. Parents must arrange for transportation for students who are assigned after school detention.

Help Our PE Program Grow!
Anything helps keeping our students active at our STEM School! The original direction of our school for 2023-2024 school year was not to have physical education offered in person on campus. Well, the stakeholders voices were heard and we went live with our PE classes.
Our space is very limited and we have some work ahead of us to get creative with fitness. The students are on computers quite a bit during their educational pathway and what better way for a brain break is to get outside and enjoy fun physical activities.
Pickleball lets kids be active in a lower-impact way and the mental stimulation helps with mood stabilization. Kids can play with friends, learn the game and play with their family in the community.

Yearbook Sales - Buy Now!
Our first ever yearbook is on sale! Order your copy online using the link below. The yearbook staff is also selling business ads, which are a great way to support their work and help keep the yearbook costs lower.
After surveying local middle schools, we are not planning to sell ads for individual students until we have a senior class.
Questions about yearbooks may be directed to our yearbook sponsor, Mrs. Swain.
Do Your Kids Know Their Worth?
Kids' minds are very complex, especially as they're growing up. One of the biggest questions they have is about what they're worth. They are going to start to answer that question in their closest relationships, based on how their loved ones treat them. And that starts with their families. Do my parents love me? Do my parents care about me? Does my family think I'm important? As dads, building self-esteem in children is important. There are things we can do to show our kids their value. Here are some of those things.
Huddle up with your kids and ask, “What is your favorite thing about yourself?”
