Borah High School
Quarter 3
From the Principal's Desk
Thank you Lions for an excellent 1st semester. Spring will be a busy time at Borah with multiple opportunities to take pride in being a Lion. Athletics, academic organizations and clubs are some of the options we invite students to participate in. I encourage students to start the semester strong by working hard with your teachers to master your classroom content and being an engaged learner in the classroom. I am proud of our student body's dedication to learning, perseverance and teamwork. Thank you students for a great 2022. Welcome to 2023 and the start of our 2nd semester.
Go Lions!

BORAH FOOD PANTRY
Key Club and the Idaho Food Bank are hosting a mobile food pantry the 3rd Thursday of each month throughout the school year. Distribution will take place in the front parking lot at Borah from 4pm-6pm. You or your parents can stop by and pick up a box of food on your way home. Food boxes vary by month but often include fresh or canned fruit, vegetables, meat and essential household items. We distribute to roughly 100 families each month and our supply is limited, so first come, first served.
Current dates for Winter/Spring 2023:
- January 19th
- February 16th
- March 16th
LIONS SHARE FOOD PANTRY
Thank you to the Ladies Philoptochos Society, Idaho Central Credit Union and members of Delta Kappa Gamma Women Educators for their donation of items to the pantry.
1 - 1 Devices
All students are required to use a Boise School District 1 - 1 device (Chromebook). These devices have pre-loaded classroom tools, software, etc. which can only be accessed through a BSD 1 - 1 Device. Personal devices (laptops, phones, etc.) will not work for students in accessing classroom content.

Student Technology Use Policy 3239Borah Support Groups
Borah is offering support groups to all students and are accessed by both those seeking connections and those needing intensive support. The purpose of a support group within the high school setting is to provide participants with a comforting, safe environment where they feel free to express themselves. In addition to providing emotional support, group participation also allows students to establish meaningful and trusting relationships with their peers. If you would like to sign your student up for a group or have any questions, feel free to contact our school social worker Becky woodland at rebecca.woodland@boiseschools.org or 208.854.6916

BORAH LIBRARY
The Borah Library is kicking off our new reading challenge! Use this link to peruse categories and sign up: BSD QUAD BOOK CHALLENGE 2023.
We assist students daily in finding the perfect book, be it print and/or eBook/eAudiobook. Students can access a plethora of professional and academic news and research through the "Database" page on our website. This is a 21st century library commons and we encourage students and classes to make use of our diverse collection of technology and tools: audio/video recorders, editing software, iMac, Adobe Suite, tablets, programmable robots, 3D printer, cutting tools, craft supplies and games.
Please return ANY/ALL library books, language arts texts or textbooks that you find in your home! There are no longer overdue fees, but there can be a charge for a "Lost"
book. Please return any items you have to Borah, even if they are from another school!

COLLEGE BOUND
College Bound Checklist:
For students planning to enroll in college in the fall of 2023, there are several tasks to complete this spring:
Apply to colleges. Each college's deadline is different!
Search for Scholarships. Scholarship deadlines are often before application deadlines. Reach out to the college's Financial Aid Office with scholarship questions.
Sign up for Orientation. Whether virtual or in person, most colleges require new students to attend an orientation session where they will sign up for classes.
View & accept financial aid. Make sure students log into their college accounts to view their financial aid package. A financial aid package includes money offered from FAFSA (Pell Grants, Work Study, and Student Loans) as well as institutional scholarships.
Sign up for housing. If your student plans to live on campus, they will need to apply for housing through their college or university.
FAFSA
Borah is holding a hands-on FAFSA Night, Wednesday, November 2nd from 6-7:30 PM in Borah's Library. This is the opportunity to receive help filling out the FAFSA.
