BUE Newsletter for Online Learners
Sept 18, 2020
From Mrs. Clark and Ms. Campbell
Dear BUE Families of Online Learners,
Mrs. Campbell has created a website with lots of beneficial resources for our online students. Even though not all BUE online learners have Mrs. Campbell, everyone is using the same curriculum and all chromebooks are the same. That means regardless of who your child's teacher it, her HOW TO TUTORIALS can help you navigate similar issues such as:
- How to use email
- How to draw on worksheets and submit assignments
- How to Navigate to find Quizzes
- How to find the correct Assignment and submit it to your teacher
You can access all these and many more at Campbell's Online Crew website.
We understand the online platform has had some glitches and Colorado Digital Learning Solutions is doing/has done some additional platform updates to fix issues.

Reminder about Breakfast and Lunch for online learners
One form must be submitted for each student in household that would like meals.
Pickup for meals will be at the School Based Family Resource Center on Monday's from 9:30 am - 11:30 am.
Parents / Guardians can only order for an ENROLLED STUDENT. Households must order by Thursday the week before Monday pickup. Only orders submitted will be filled. Missing more than two pickups will jeopardize the households eligibility for this program.
You do not have to order for every student in your home. For example, you have three (3) students but only one (1) student would like meals, only enter for that one (1) student. If all three (3) students would like a meal, you will enter the information for all three (3) students. Each parent / guardian must ENROLL their own student(s). People are NOT allowed to enroll their neighbor, cousin, nephew/niece, etc.
Only parents or guardians may enroll their children. If you have questions contact Jody Williams at jwilliams@garfield16.org or 970-285-5705 x4180.
PLEASE USE THE GOOGLE FORM LINK BELOW TO REQUEST MEALS
You must submit a request for meals on Thursdays by 10 a.m.
in order to pick up meals on Mondays

READING IS SO IMPORTANT - PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS READING AT LEAST 20 MINUTES EVERY DAY!
Here are some of the ways reading helps a young mind. (adapted from Merrimack College)
Self Esteem
This might be the most important area of all. The sooner children develop reading skills, the more they gain ground in all areas of life. That leads to more assurance in how they speak and write, as well as giving them the confidence of an expanded knowledge base. When children start to read at an early age they become more creative and open. Also, those who read a lot will naturally know more information – another confidence builder for any child
Improved Concentration
Reading helps develop higher levels of focus and concentration. It also forces the reader to sort things out in their own mind. This type of concentration on one topic – rather than trying to do many things at once as seen in video games – leads to better focus even after the book is put down.
Critical and Analytical Thinking Skills
The classic here is when a young reader becomes absorbed with a mystery book – Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew were examples for generations of Americans – and manages to solve the mystery in her head before the books reveal it. That’s a simple example of how reading helps students develop better critical and analytical skills, something that carries over even after they have put the book down.
Stronger Memory Skills
Even with a relatively simple book, children must keep in mind a wide variety of characters, places, things and actions. Reading helps to strengthen memory retention skills. That’s a powerful tool for both children and adults, as well.
Expanded Vocabulary
How many times do we all search for just the right word to express what we’re trying to say? Readers do that less. Children who read frequently have a larger vocabulary than their peers, and the words that young readers learn in a book make their way into their speech, helping them to be better communicators.
These are some of the most powerful ways that reading helps children grow and develop skills that will last their lifetime!
SCHOOL-BASED FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER
Garfield County School District No.16 is supporting families enrolled in the district through their School-Based Family Resource Center (SBFRC). The SBFRC will be hosting a monthly clothing giveaway for families and their students in Garfield16. The event will take place outside the resource center every 4th Wednesday of the month, weather permitting.
