Virtual Graduation Ceremony
The last few weeks have sure been unprecedented as we navigated unchartered times of non-traditional instruction. I appreciate your patience as we make the best possible decisions to move forward to recognize and celebrate our graduates and their accomplishments.
We have been working many days behind the scenes to explore as many options and opportunities that we can possible think of in coordination with our state recommendations and restrictions to keep everyone safe and healthy as much as possible. After exploring all options and in compliance with our local and state health department guidelines all of the high schools within the Boone County School District will be hosting the 2020 Commencement Exercises/Graduation Ceremony virtually via our YouTube Channel on Friday, May 29th, 7:00 p.m.
Senior Information and Picture Needed
Our virtual ceremony will have the usual program of events as much as possible with recognitions and speeches. We will be feature our graduates with a slideshow that includes a baby picture and a formal senior picture. We will also combine our Senior Awards Night items into each slide as much as possible. You might have noticed we are asking for a formal senior picture in the google form that was in the newsletter this past Sunday, April 26th and posted on our social media platforms earlier this week. The reason we are asking for a formal picture is our senior portraits are currently in the lab. The lab has been shut down for several weeks along with other businesses and may not be available for us to use in time to put together the slideshow. Please be sure to submit a formal senior picture no later than May 10th. Please use this link to submit information and picture: https://forms.gle/gfVgeR58TByJ2fyx7
I know this is less than ideal for everyone, but collectively with all of our high schools and our district office, this is the best option we have to ensure we meet all of the guidelines and restrictions that are in place. Our virtual ceremony on May 29th replaces any future dates that we have anticipated using in July and early August.
Graduation Attire Change
Our graduation gown has been changed for this school year. Instead of the maroon gown that you turn back in, everyone will be receiving a black gown that is that you will keep. This change was made to eliminate another trip to return the gown. Graduate Services will be on site Thursday, May 14th to provide you with the cap, gown, tassel and other items that you might have ordered.
Locker Items and Returning Items
For seniors, Thursday, May 14th from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. will be available to sign up through Sign-Up Genius for an available timeslot to pick up items from your locker. During this event, seniors will also need to return any school-related items they may have such as: chromebook, charger for chromebook, library book(s), textbook(s), calculators, etc. You will remain in your vehicle at all times. We will have THREE separate locations based on LAST NAME. There is detailed instructions in the Sign-Up Genius. I will also include the details of how to proceed through the drop-off/pick-up areas in the newsletter this weekend, Sunday, May 3rd.

Light Up the Stadium Events
To honor and recognize our seniors, we have been doing a “Light Up the Stadium” event each Wednesday at 20:20 (8:20 p.m.) for 20 minutes and 20 seconds. This will continue the next two Wednesdays—May 6th and 13th. However, on May 13th, I have invited all of our staff—teachers, counselors, administrators, office staff, cafeteria workers, custodians, para-educators, coaches to line up on both sides of Campus Drive for our seniors to drive through so we have wave and see them one last time as our students. Vehicles need to keep moving and not stop or get out of the vehicle at any time. Everyone needs to wear a mask. We hope our graduates can participate. Families are encouraged to drive their senior so they are not distracted by trying to seeing everyone and wave.
Honorary Diplomas
Though it will look different from previous years, seniors in the class of 2020 still have the opportunity to create “Honorary Diplomas” for teachers and/or staff members who have impacted them. This year, we are doing them virtually using FlipGrid. We encourage all of our seniors to participate in this rewarding event of recognizing those that had an impact on them in school.
