RPS Distance Learning Initiative

Preparing for Distance Learning

During this COVID-19 school shutdown, it is the mission of Rockford Public Schools to provide a meaningful and relevant learning experience for our student body. With the district's distance learning initiative beginning on April 15 with a more robust instructional experience and learning directed by your child’s teacher(s), it is our mission to investigate our students' home internet solutions. We have done this in two important ways - with a parent survey sent out in a message from Dr. Shibler on March 31st and another survey that went out to elementary and secondary staff on April 1st.


The purpose of these surveys was to identify students/households that did not feel there was appropriate internet access to properly complete distance learning opportunities (e.g. enough reliable bandwidth to stream 2-3 videos simultaneously). We are pleased with the results of this first wave of surveys! Our district will reach out to individual families that were identified in the coming days to discuss their specific connectivity situation and to offer appropriate solutions.

Rockford Technology Help Desk Email

During this school shutdown, the Rockford IT department has created a temporary Help Desk email option for students to use if they have issues with their school issued devices. The email to use is studenthelp@rockfordschools.org . We will try and respond within the same day and provide what assistance we can.


There will be technology support for any school-issued device issues every Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am in the RHS Cafeteria (Building Entrance #3). Please try to email studenthelp@rockfordschools.org first so they will know you need assistance and can create a support ticket.
