Message from the Superintendent
Greetings EUSD Community,
Happy Women’s History Month! We recognize the influence of women leaders in our own communities and families, as well as all throughout our country and beyond. Many important historic contributions were led by women, including breakthroughs in science, art, education, and more! Check out this resource from the Alameda County Library and find a variety of books for children and families about important women in history.
In the spirit of celebrating leaders in our community, earlier this year we recognized students at our academic achievement assembly. It was a very exciting day where students and staff celebrated students’ advancement in their education. We encourage parents and caregivers to continue providing integral support at home as we enter CAASPP testing season and prepare for the end of the school year. It truly makes a difference when parents and caregivers provide support at home by checking in with children about their day at school, their interests and feelings. When your child knows they have support at home, they thrive with self-confidence.
We also would like to thank parents and caregivers for communicating with our school district and engaging in opportunities to make your voice heard. Your participation is important to your child’s education, as well as the improvement of the school district. The LCAP survey is an essential tool we use to understand school reception in our community and allows us to enhance our resources. Thank you to all who took the the LCAP survey!
There will be some aesthetic changes happening to our campus this year. You may see and experience construction happening around our schools. EUSD Facilities will be installing solar panels to support our energy conservation efforts, and parking spaces will be removed from the front of the school to make space for bus loading. We will share more details about these new projects as the time approaches.
We are very close to the end of the school year. Our students and staff are hard at work reaching their learning goals and preparing for the next step in their education. I look forward to celebrating our students’ achievement at graduation. Thank you for your continued support of our school district!
Sincerely,
Dr. Quiauna Scott

COVID-19 Updates - Masks Optional
The California Department of Public Health has released an update on COVID-19 safety guidelines. Beginning March 13, a COVID-19 positive person may end isolation after five days if they feel well, have improving symptoms, and are fever-free for 24 hours. There is less emphasis on testing negative in order to leave isolation. This change aligns with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and took effect on Monday, March 13, 2023. Per Cal-OSHA’s regulations, however, staff who test positive for COVID-19 may only return to the workplace on days 6-10 of their isolation if they have a negative antigen test result.
On Monday, April 3, 2023, masks will no longer be required in our schools, but students and staff are welcome to wear a mask if it is their preference. We encourage families to take COVID-19 tests at home if they are feeling sick, and we ask students to stay home and follow the new COVID-19 isolation guidelines. We ask students and staff to consider wearing a mask during school if they are exhibiting symptoms of illness.
Keeping COVID-19 resources stocked at home is an important prevention tool. COVID-19 tests are available at local pharmacies, through insurance options, and can be ordered by mail. Students may also ask for a COVID-19 test or mask in our office.
Celebrating Academic Achievement
Emery High School held its 20th annual Honor Roll Assembly on January 27, 2023. Eighty-one honor roll students with GPAs ranging from 3.0 to over 4.0 were recognized at the academic rally, along with many other students who were honored for their performance in specific classes, overall improvement, and citizenship.
In the intense class versus class academic competition “Pop the Question,” the Spartan Rally Belt was on the line. Ultimately, the winners of the competition were the seniors, the Class of 2023! Emery High School looks forward to adding many more students to the honor roll numbers in the semesters to come. Go Spartans!
Emery High School’s Muslim Student Association
The Muslim Student Association (MSA), led by president Mona Shariff, hosted the first annual National Hijab Day on February 1, 2023. The MSA taught students and staff about Islam during a full school assembly. The presentation included information about the Five Pillars, women's equality and responsibilities in the Quran, the origins and meaning of the hijab, and more.
After the presentation, students and staff enjoyed information stations organized by the MSA. The station "Halal or Hurum?" shared what is and is not allowed in Islam, and the station "What the Islam!" taught about different objects that hold significance in the practice of Islam. There was also an Islam trivia booth.
Students and staff had an opportunity to learn more about the hijab and be covered. MSA president Monda Shariff shared, “As the president of the MSA, I was given the opportunity to practice being a leader of my fellow peers. More than that, I was given the chance to create a space where fellow Muslim Hijabis could educate themselves, as well as others, on a big part of their identity, Islam. We, as the MSA, believe that sharing more about Islam to others from any background not only helps people learn more about different practices, but also helps us receive the recognition everyone deserves.”
National Hijab Day was a great informational experience for our students and staff to learn more about Islam in our community.
