Oceanside High School Weekly Update
08/28/2022
The Pirate Way
Hello Pirates!
I cannot believe that we have already completed our first full week of school! We had a great first week of school and I am so proud of all of our staff, students, and caregivers as we start this year off strong. It is through our continued hard work and making sure that we are all working together toward our common goal of success for all that this year will be better than any previous year!
We are going to continue focusing on the PIRATE CORE VALUES and the positive culture for everyone on campus! Culture is going to be a key point that we will use to anchor all of our practices. Culture will be present in both the activities we have on campus, the customer service we demonstrate, and the relearning of our educational environments.
We have implemented our new policies in regards to cell phones and electronic devices as well as enforcing our tardy policy on campus. We appreciate your support in these two areas as we strive to create the best possible learning environment for every student at OHS! If you have any questions regarding these policies do not hesitate to reach out. We are also continuing the use of our eHall pass system we began last year. This is a great way for us to have accountability for our students in case of an emergency, but also as a deterrent for any vandalism on campus. Again, these are policies that we will be using to relearn and recreate our learning environment that will prove to be positive and successful for our students.
Please remember that it is all of us together that make OHS what it is for all of our students. We welcome you to be an active participant in the activities and happenings on campus. If you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to reach out to any OHS staff member! We are a team working toward a common goal. Only when we all work together can we truly transform and increase the success of all of our OHS students!
Pirates you are a part of something big! You belong and will always belong in the Oceanside High School Pirate Community. What an amazing feeling to realize you belong to something bigger than the individual Pirate, but rather part of a 100 year plus Pirate Ship Community!
Regardless of where you may go and no matter what you end up accomplishing the one thing that you have to count on is that you will ALWAYS be a PIRATE!
Stay safe! Know you are loved and belong to the Pirate community - this is the Pirate Way!
Maintaining the Safety and Security of Campus
The Oceanside Unified School District is committed to maintaining safe and secure campuses in order to promote the health, and well-being of our students, families, and staff. The following prevention practices are in place to support the safety and security of our school.
- In September, all of our staff will participate in an Active Assailant training where we will learn and practice response protocols for keeping our students safe in the unlikely situation involving an armed intruder.
- Our school regularly practices disaster and evacuation drills with our students and staff, including a minimum of two lockdown drills per year.
- OUSD partners with the Oceanside Police Department to provide four dedicated School Resource Officers (SRO) who are trained members of the National Association of School Resource Officers. Our SROs are stationed at schools within the district, and are regular visitors on our campus. The SROs will respond to any safety issues that arise at any of our schools.
- OUSD employs a highly trained team of over 45 Campus Security who serve our middle schools, high schools, and Surfside Academy.
- This summer, our administrative and custodial team led by the Student Services Coordinator, SRO(s) and OPD SWAT Officers conducted a comprehensive campus security walkthrough.
- Our school has the Raptor Visitor Management System which tracks all visitors or volunteers entering campus. Authorized visitors are then presented with a clearly marked identification badge.
- Our school has a comprehensive Crisis Response Plan that is reviewed annually with all staff, and placed in all classrooms, that details how to safely respond to specific emergency situations.

OHS will continue using eHall Pass. Click the picture below for a short video.

Chrome Device Protection
We are excited for another year of providing OUSD students with Google Chrome devices. Beginning August 2022, Oceanside Unified School District will be offering a new OUSD Chrome Device Protection Program to our families. We will no longer be working in partnership with the company School Device Coverage. If you received an email from School Device Coverage in regards to open enrollment, please disregard it.
