Principal's Corner
It has been very busy here at Steeby and November will not be any different. We look forward to seeing all of you at the WEPA Fall Carnival on November 8.
On November 12, Steeby Elementary is hosting a Math Night for Steeby students and their parents/guardians. We will serve pizza from 5:30-6pm and then students will take their parents to different classrooms to learn about our math curriculum here at Steeby from 6-7pm. Students will be able to show their parents what math games they play and the different math activities they do in their classrooms. Second and third grade students learn many new math skills and it is important to us for you to be involved in their learning as well. We encourage everyone to come and check out what fun math activities are happening at Steeby.

Media Center News
Happy November!
October was a busy month in media class! Check out all the cool skills and activities we did in media class!
2nd grade: Students created All About Me posters using Abcya.com. They also made their own creative stories using My Story Maker. And for Halloween week, students drew a picture of their Halloween costume and typed a sentence about it using Abcya Story Maker. Abcya.com and My Story Maker can both be found on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home and used at home.
3rd grade: Students created their own stories on My Story Maker. The My Story Maker website can be found on Information Place:https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home. They took a media skills pretest on skills like digital citizenship and how to locate a book using our library system. The students will take the test again in the spring to show the growth they have made when it comes to their media skills. Students also logged in to Google Classroom. We will be using Google Classroom to answer questions, take polls and work on assignments in media class.
November is Picture Book month! So Happy Reading!
Happy Reading!

A Note From Music Class
Greetings from the music room! October has been filled with lots of songs and fun!
Second Graders have been working on recognizing and singing so, mi and la in songs like "Doggie, Doggie". We also have been using xylophones and glockenspiels during music. The song "Willowbee" was used to show different movements with our bodies. We also learned about call and response songs with the song "Pizza Pizza Daddy-O". And since it's October we have been singing fall and Halloween songs.
3rd graders have been learning about new notes called "watermelon" through singing songs like "Chicken on the Fencepost" and "Paw Paw Patch". We have also been using our bodies to move to songs like "La Raspa" and "I Don't Care if the Rain Comes Down". 3rd graders have also been using xylophones, glockenspiels and chimes and have been singing Fall and Halloween songs.
*3rd graders have a music program coming up in March!

Physical Education Fun
We recently finished up our Basketball unit. The improvement in dribbling and shooting skills from the beginning of the unit to the end was very noticeable! After that we practiced overhand throwing and catching skills and put it into a game with Pin Knock Down, a favorite of many students.
We finished out the month with some Halloween games to celebrate the holiday. Ghostbusters, Zombie Tag, and Mad Scientist were all great games to get in the holiday spirit and have tons of exercise and fun.
Our winners for student of the month:
2nd grade:
girls-Maya Manning and Ashtyn Mulder
boys-Lucas Jasinski and Colton Huizenga
3rd grade:
girls-Paris Ortiz and Violet Mohon
boys-Luke Warsen and Braydan Grevenstuk.

Over the Counter medications: Over the counter medications must be accompanied by the Medication Administration Form (no need for doctor signatures for over the counter medications) or a written note, with the parent/guardian signature included, telling us the frequency and dosage amount the student should receive. Medication will not be administered without one of these two items being on file.
