A Message from the Administrative Team
We were so fortunate this week that each grade had an opportunity for students to learn more about the Holocaust, what it means to be an upstander, and how we can learn from and eradicate hate. Our seventh grade students heard a speaker, Mr. Jack Levie, whose parents both endured the Holocaust. Mr. Levie shared his parent's experience and asked students to consider, "What kind of person do you want to be?".
Our eighth grade students attended a workshop in the Mobile Museum of Tolerance (which was parked behind WJHS on Thursday and Friday) entitled, "The Power of Ordinary People". They talked about the idea of hate, the different ways that hate can be expressed, and how ordinary people have a lot of power to stand up and defuse hate. The MMOT representatives helped students brainstorm everyday things they can do to be more inclusive and kind. Both of these opportunities were informative and insightful and we are thankful that WJHS had the opportunity to participate. You can find some photos below.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend (despite this April snow!).
Sincerely,
Kate, Eric and Jeff

The Month of Ramadan
Many of our Muslim students and Muslims in our greater community will spend the next month observing one of the five pillars of Islam, Ramadan. This is a holiday that usually includes daily fasting for those observing the holiday. As we prepare for our students who are observing this holiday, we have options for lunch and recess, and are prepared to accommodate the needs of our students needing support as they observe this holy month of Ramadan. Please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or Grade Level Administrator if your child needs an accommodation.
