Week 2 - 9/7/2018
Well we got through the first week, whew! Thank you all for your patience with the turnaround and parking situation. Things will definitely improve as routines get established for folks, but it helps a lot when people use the turn around and don't park and then leave with all of the traffic.
Speaking of parking and walking in your child, if you choose to do that, please leave your child in the cafeteria or if it's after the bell, leave them at the door. Students know where their classrooms are and are quite capable of walking themselves to class. It also helps the teacher have a better start with the entire class when students are there without parents in the mix. I realize it's hard to let go, but helping your child become independent is part of the learning process and getting to class by themselves is a great start:)
Just a reminder that this year we will not be having a formal back to school night with presentations from the teachers. If you did not receive a brochure or handout from your child's teacher giving you general info about their class, please contact the teacher for that information. If you have other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Next Friday, Sept. 14, is our first PBIS assembly at 8:00 AM. This is the time we will talk to the students about our Positive Behavior and Intervention Support System and how we recognize positive behavior. The overarching theme for the year is "responsibility", and each month we will focus on a character trait, all leading to responsibility. The month of September is "respect" and teachers will give "hawk eyes" and "shining stars" for students that show respect. You are more than welcome to attend this assembly, and any assembly that we have throughout the year!
Coming in Oct. is an evening opportunity for parents to learn more about keeping your kids safe online. The movie "Screenagers" will be shown at Jackson Elementary to parents in the Glencoe Feeder, with a question and answer session to follow. I highly recommend this opportunity for parents, especially parents with kids in grades 4 and higher. I will be attending so I hope to see you there!
Either today or early next week you will see a "Spirit and Pride" packet come home with your child. This is an opportunity to purchase Hawk tee shirts and hoodies at a really good price. Our PTO also has shirts to sell that they offer at our evening events.
Tonight is the Glow Golf Tournament - thank you PTO for your hard work on this, and a special thank you to Joanna Mehaffey at Columbia Bank for organizing the event!
Have a wonderful weekend!
