Irmo Elementary Family Updates
#HeartoftheHive October 11-15
A Note From Your Principal
Dear IES Families,
This week we began celebrating our September Students of the Month. Students were chosen that show "initiative" as we work to develop the whole child at IES. Character matters in the heart of the hive. Fourth grade students enjoyed being crime scene investigators as they experienced a real world CSI in-school field trip. The pictures below take you through just a few of the amazing experiences throughout the week. Our very own second grade student, Ellie B, won an iPad through the University of South Carolina's School of Health's summer study. During this time, students wore activity watches to track their summer activity and to encourage a healthy lifestyle. If your student would like to be a part of this study for the next round, more information will be coming in the next few weeks from IES and our coordinating partnership with USC! As a reminder, the special election for the Richland County D5 school board open seat is Tuesday, October 12th. If you live in Richland county, please vote. If you do not live in Richland county, encourage someone who does to vote. This matters!

IES 2021-2022 Book Character Day: Coming October 28th
It is time to celebrate our love of reading and our favorite book characters!
Who: ALL IES students and staff
What: Annual Book Character Day at IES
When: Thursday, October 28th
Where: All IES Classrooms
Why:To celebrate our love of life long reading and honor our favorite book characters
Important Details:
All students can participate 4K-5th
Students and staff dress up as a favorite character from a favorite book! Have fun and be creative. Outfits/costumes do not need to be fancy, elaborate, or costly. This is meant to be fun for the kids and families. Kids love it and it’s a great way to promote literacy.
It does need to be a true book character and not just a cartoon or movie character, hero, etc.
No props (distracting for instruction), no “character” face masks, or scary costumes.
This is optional and so much fun!
We hope to see our students enjoy this special, fun day!
