Mrs. Badgett's Weekly Update

Week of February 8th

The students did a phenomenal job last week taking their iPads home. What a responsible class we have! All students brought their iPads back completely charged! When your child brings the iPad home, he/she can practice facts on Math Arcade, practice any subject through MobyMax, or create an explanation over a process on Explain Everything. The students also love creating specific areas/perimeters on Minecraft.

Also, below is an overview for this week. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great week!!

Reading

This week we will be focusing on main idea. We will be reading stories/passages as a whole group. Then, the students will be expressing their thoughts or connections through a Padlet or an IdeaBoardz.

Your child will also be reading a novel, based on his/her reading level, with a small group of students. We are working on answering higher-level questions over our reading by analyzing, evaluating, and creating.

We will also be reading passages. Please reference Canvas to view the articles. There is a link to Canvas below.

Math

We will complete Unit 8 (Area and Perimeter) this week. The assessment will be on Thursday. Please have your child study the review sheet that will be coming home on Wednesday. We are using the MineCraft App to create a Minecraft village with predetermined areas and perimeters. Since your child is able to bring his/her iPad home a couple times of week, please make sure he/she is practicing math facts at home.

Writing

We will focus on the Essential Question of "How do readers/writers change their approach for different types of information?" We will discuss introductions and conclusions to continue our essays over our Famous Hoosiers. The students that have completed their essays will work on turning their work into documentaries!

Homework

Your child will have homework each night. The reading log is due on Friday. Also, MobyMax is a great website for your child to practice at his/her instructional level. The link is below.
