Communication with Parents
Three technological Tools
Dropbox
As a teacher of third grade, I know that not all schedules and documents make it home to parents. When they do arrive in your child's agenda, sometimes they are crinkled beyond legibility or smeared. So this year I have decided to create a dropbox especially for my class. Save/bookmark the link posted below and have immediate access to all classroom documents, schedules, forms, important newsletters, extra at-home practice activities, and much more.
Google Dox
Sometimes emails get lost or skipped. Sometimes it might take me awhile to respond to an email and you have no one else to ask. Though I am a teacher, I also have a life and so do all of you parents. So to better communicate with my parents, I created a Google Doc where parents can make suggestions for improvement in the classroom, ask general questions that can be answered by me or other parents using the doc, sign up for specific classroom duties, etc. For example, before our Valentines Day Party I will post a sign up sheet for parents wanting to send in food or come and volunteer. Without having to call or email, each parent can go on the document and easily sign up. Though this may seem confusing at first, this tool is great for creating a simple way for all parents and myself to communicate with each other. Use the link below to access the document.
Skype
Making appointments for parent-teacher conferences have become one of the biggest challenges when talking about communication with parents. Parents complain about having to skip work because of the limited appointment schedule and I am forced to stay after hours at work for weeks just to see everyone. Skype is a video chat tool that can allow me to have parent teacher conferences via computer. In the comfort of your own home or when you are on a break at work, Skype will allow more flexibility for appointment times.
