April Parent Newsletter
Manvel Public School 2023
Message from the Principal
Dear Mustang Families,
April is here, meaning the 2022-2023 school term is nearing its end. There are a lot of events happening before the end of the year. Be sure to see the upcoming events below, including Grandparent Day on Friday, April 14th, at 2:30 pm. May is also a very busy month, especially if you have an 8th grader or Kindergartener (graduation); there is preschool and kindergarten roundup for next year's incoming students and parents, the Honors Breakfast to celebrate community members and some of our 7th & 8th graders, and lots of fun field trips for other grades. We will also be having our second annual COLOR FUN RUN at MPS. All families are invited! *All dates are listed below ~ mark your calendars!
We have begun administering the North Dakota State Assessment (NDSA) for grades 3-8. This computerized assessment is mandated by the ND Department of Public Instruction for all public schools in North Dakota each spring. It tests the areas of Math, English/Language Arts, and Science. Our teachers have worked hard preparing our students for the rigor and validity of academic success with this test. Thanks for ensuring your child gets plenty of rest, eats a good breakfast and brings a water bottle for hydration ~ all important aspects of healthy learning. You will receive a copy of your child's results from their teacher in the next few weeks.
The end of the school day is very hectic. Please ensure your child knows the plan for the end of the day BEFORE they come to school each day. If there are changes to be made for after school, the deadline to report those to the office is 1:30 pm. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Thank you to all the families who supported the PTO Carnival last month. It was a great success; our school and PTO support are much appreciated! It was wonderful having families back in the building!
As we approach spring and have nice weather, please remember that more children will walk to and from school. Please abide by the traffic flow and student drop-off and pickup laws. The attention to these details is for the safety of our children that attend Manvel Public School.
As always, we value your input and invite you to share with us any ideas you may have to help our school continue to grow and move forward!
Have a healthy and happy Easter!

Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Weston . .
Your students have been busy engaging in social and emotional learning!
Our classroom counseling lessons follow the CASEL wheel, which lays out five separate categories of social/emotional learning:
Here's where we are headed in our learning for April:
Preschool and Kindergarten:
In the month of April, we are going to embark on CAREER EDUCATION! Students will learn about the connection between their interests/hobbies and picking a job that they will love someday. We will also learn about the different types of jobs, focusing on helpers in our community!
Our career fair will end with a career fair in May!
1st-3rd grade:
We are focusing on our SELF-MANAGEMENT skills.
We are really enjoying learning about our little spots of emotion with some hands-on activities and role-playing! Last month we learned about how to activate our peaceful spot and got to know the little spot of anger. This month we will learn about the little spots of anxiety and sadness and use peaceful spot tools to turn our blue and gray spots to gray!
4th-8th grade:
We are focusing on our RELATIONSHIP skills.
We have been learning about our conflict styles, and will continue to use role-play to explore best ways to be assertive in our communication and upstanders when we see friends who need help!
