Let’s put math and science in motion and engage our students while addressing tough to teach, tough to learn standards! This workshop is designed for teachers interested in introducing coding with the TI-Innovator™ Rover to their students. No coding experience is necessary. Participants will learn the basics and choose from math and science lessons that include topics that will engage students in new and exciting ways, such as:
· Programming the TI-Innovator™ Rover to drive a path, draw geometric shapes and move
along the XY coordinate plane
· Exploring the relationships between distance, rate and time
· Exploring pedigrees
· Classifying species
· Illustrating the intersection of two lines by crashing the Rover while connecting velocity to
the slope and starting distance to the y-intercept
· Exploring On-ramp to Robotics activities
Kathleen Traylor BIO
Kathleen Traylor has integrated technology into instruction for over 25 years, in Virginia, Georgia and South Carolina. Now retired to the North Georgia Mountains, she was a K-7 Computer Teacher, a staff development coordinator for a public television educational technology consortium, a school technology specialist and most recently, for over 15 years, a middle school math teacher. She earned a BA from the University of Virginia, Mathematics grades 6-12 teacher certification from Virginia Wesleyan College, and both an M.Ed. and Ed.S., as well as a Gifted Education endorsement, from the University of Georgia. As a Texas Instruments Regional Instructor, she has conducted workshops around the Southeast, and finds that students, and teachers, love exploring the beauty of mathematics with technology.
