Honor the Castle February's Theme participation opportunities for our Knights
In our increasingly interconnected world, learning openness and appreciating differences are important to many aspects of building community and learning from others.
In honoring our Monthly theme, we have a few happenings for our students to participate in.
Calling all students-
Any student who would like to be a part of our morning announcements in sharing how you say “Good morning” in a different language, please sign up in the main office. You will take part in starting our day at RMS by saying Good morning over the PA or through a video share during the month of February.
The Great Choices Junior Student Film Festival contest is on-
Meijer is sponsoring their annual Great Choices Junior Student Film Festival. Students in grades K-8 are invited to submit a 30 second PSA (public service announcement) focused on one of these three topics:
· Building Character
· Celebrating Diversity
· Promoting Healthy Living
Your audience is Michigan students in grades K-6. The top winning PSA’s in each category will win grant money for Richards Middle School.
For more details about this contest, visit https://www.meijergreatchoices.com/contests/k-8-classroom-contest/ . Email Mr. Julian if you are interested or have any questions on the contest, rules for the contest are very specific: https://www.meijergreatchoices.com/downloads/contest_documents/2021_k-8_rules.pdf Please see some examples of past winners: https://www.meijergreatchoices.com/past-winners/
All PSA’s must be submitted no later than February 26, 2021. PSA’s will be online for the general public to view as of March 2nd through March 29th, 2021.
Starting this week and continuing through the month of February, we will remind our Knights to be on the lookout for daily information about African American History makers included through our daily student email in honor of Black History Month.
Lastly we will be bringing back our “This is us… our RMS family bulletin board” in a digital format (More details to come later this month on how to contribute to adding to the board).
Hello RMS Knights and Families
Our staff look forward to the second week of 2nd semester through our remote and face to face classes through synchronous learning with our Knights.
Our Knights will be connecting either face to face or virtually based on their mode of connection for hours one through seven. *Please note that this upcoming Tuesday, 2-2-21 is an early dismissal at 12:30pm for our students.
For our face to face knights, I want to remind our families and students to daily:

*Double check your bus stop and route number (if an in district resident RMS student)
*Have your iPad with you each day you are at RMS.
*Enter at our main office doors for 7th graders and door #37 for our 8th Graders (The doors opposite of our flag pole) on the Garfield side of RMS at 7:45am. Hand Sanitizer dispensers are on the walls of our vestibule and our main office/attendance office.
*A bagged breakfast will be available for any interested Knight in our cafeteria.
* Students are welcome to bring a backpack or cinch bag (No locker use available at this time).
*Our school day starts at 8:05am.
*Hand free drinking fountains are available for bottle refill (Locations of these hand free drinking fountains are in the middle of the hallway on the Garfield side of the 7th and 8th grade hallways. Another hand free drinking fountain is located at the beginning of our Selectives hallway.
*Masks must be worn while in the building and on RMS premises.
For our virtual knights:
Our virtual connection will follow a full school day beginning at 8:05 AM and ending at 2:50 PM.
Our virtual Knight(s) will connect through the GoToMeeting link for that individual class hour. Curriculum and materials will be provided through Blackboard and content will be delivered through synchronous learning opportunities according to our daily schedule of hours one through seven.
As a virtual learner, it is the expectation that our Knights log in to class daily and remain connected until dismissed by the teacher. The passing time for connection between class periods will be 4 minutes. Learning targets and expectations will be identical to that of our face-to-face school model.
Determining your lunch block and lunchroom procedures
For 7th grade, if L is in front of the room number (L220), you will have Lunch A. If the L is after the room number (220L), you will have Lunch B.
For 8th Grade, if the L is in front of the room number(L220), you will have Lunch C. If the L is after the room number (220L), you will have Lunch D.
Lunch Procedures-
When our students are leaving their classes to head down to the cafeteria for their designated lunch period:
* Our students will have a designated side of the hallway to walk down.
* Our students will enter our cafeteria at the second entrance doors (one way traffic only).
*Students will sit at a lunch table where there are separated blue dots (*Four students per round table and five students per rectangular table). Our students will sign up for a table location and we will have assigned lunch seats.
*Students who have brought a lunch, can find their table location and begin to eat. Hand sanitizers are around the cafeteria walls and labeled for use.
*If a student is receiving a lunch from our cafeteria serving line, they will follow directional arrows on the floors through the serving line. Our cafeteria staff will be intentional to limit the handling of food and lunch items. All items that will be accessible to students for pick up will be wrapped.
Breakfast and lunches are free of cost to all students. The monthly lunch menu can be found here- https://www.fraser.k12.mi.us/domain/72 at the tab that says “ RMS/FHS lunch menu on the top right side of the webpage.
* Masks will be worn in the cafeteria; anytime our student are not eating. Once done with their lunch or beverages, our students will dispose of those wrappers or cartons in our garbage cans.
*If items are recyclable, our students will dispose of those items in our recycle containers.
Our students will have a staggered dismissal announced by our cafeteria staff, and our students will walk on the right side of hallway as they head to their next classroom. The cafeteria will be sanitized before the next lunch starts.
