First Grade Truth
All Things First Grade Math
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
I am so excited about this year and know that we will have a great one!
Here are a few reminders as we ride (wink, wink) into this new year:
- The Google folder is ready for you to start planning and digging into (link below)
- Math G1 YAG 2019-20 is updated and is ready (link below)
- Unit 1 IFD has been updated and is ready (link below)
- Warm-ups will still be sent out weekly, but can also be found in the Google folder
- The units have been renumbered so the numbers go in order (the key is in the YAG and can be found below as well)
- Snack Attacks will continue this year! We will plan, talk about MAP, small group, stations, etc.
Click here for the G1 C&I Documents Folder
Remember, you have to be logged in using your Wylie Google account.
To add this folder to your drive:
- Right click on the folder name
- Click on Add to my Drive
Why should you do this?
- As I update the files in the folder you will have access to them as soon as changes are made
You will notice that assessment will be done a little differently this year. Don't worry we will talk about this more on C&I days.
Unit Renumbering Key:
This year we have renumbered the units. Here is a key to help you know what the units used to be and how they are numbered/named now. Changes are highlighted in purple, if it is not purple then it is the same name/number as the past.
Kicking Off Math Small Group and Stations
As you are starting to think about your small group and stations time here is a document to help you start planning and preparing. You will hear more about the Kick Off guide at C&I days, but I wanted you to be able to look at Day 0 and ponder the questions.
Rethinking Calendar Time
Calendar is an important life skill that our students need, however it is not a math TEK. So when should calendar be done? The skills that are related to calendar are actually covered in Social Studies. So, I would challenge you to think about using these minutes that had been done in math and do them in Social Studies which would allow you to do more problem solving, numeracy, number talks, and counting during your warm-up time.
Social Studies TEKS:
- 1.3A – Distinguish among concepts of time, including past, present, future, yesterday, today, tomorrow, etc.
- 1.3B – Describe and measure calendar time by days, weeks, months, and years.
- 1.3C – Create a calendar and simple timeline.
