The Critics Remark.

"...Plenty of amusing. accurate observations about freshman life, from the insecurities of first dates, to the dangers of walking the hall between classes." - Booklist

"...Hilarious...Scott's character arc is extremely satisfying... Lubar's language use and writing style are deceptively simple. The teen's physical and emotional tumult is as clear, familiar, and complex as high school itself." - SLJ

The Book

As Scott begins the journey into high school, all that he knew or thought he knew gets turned upside down. As his friends drift away and disappear from his life, and his love interest, Julia, doesn't feel the same way, he tries hopelessly to win her heart. From joining a school play and discovering that she didn't make the part, to embarrassingly cracking his voice when he tries to talk to her, he can just never win. Having the star quarterback as her boyfriend isn't helping his case either, although "star" is more entitlement then he deserves, after never winning a game the whole season. At the same time, there is another not so gorgeous girl that comes along, Weird Lee, or Weirdly as they call her, is a Gothic girl with more metal on her body weight coming from metal in her skin than her actual body its self.

"We plunged into the future without a clue."

These 8 words at the start of the book are able to describe the entire book, as well as life it's self. While some people worry about the future, it is important to embrace it, as the next minute may be your last. Reading this book teaches you a lot about this topic.
