Week of October 2, 2020
Message from the Superintendent
I would like to begin by expressing my sincere appreciation for your support, patience and understanding as we navigate this unique school year. We will continue to learn and overcome challenges together.
As we collaborate and maintain our focus of Excellence in Education, innovation and change are happening. Through assessment, reflection and guidance from teachers, staff, and administrators, we continue to make sound instructional decisions based on data.
Change is constant, and we have work to do in many areas. I am proud of the resilience displayed by our students and staff as we provide a quality education while meeting the varying needs of all.
Staff have worked diligently to prepare the draft FCPS Student Transition Plan that will be presented at the School Board Meeting on Monday October 5, 2020 for their approval. During Monday’s presentation we will walk through where we were; where we are now; and where we hope to be. We hope that you will be able to watch the broadcast of this meeting on the division’s Facebook page, your cable television provider or at https://www.regionalwebtv.com/fredsb.
We are excited to announce that this year marks the 150th Anniversary of the Fredericksburg City Public School system. Plans to commemorate this event are underway and details will be forthcoming. Stay tuned for information about these exciting events!

Ceili Leahy Day of Service
Dr. Duffy recently participated in the radio show “Town Talk with Ted Schubel,” along with John and Leslie Leahy, to talk about the Annual Fall Ceili Leahy Day of Service.
Students from James Monroe High School are pairing up with Spring Arbor of Fredericksburg, a local assisted living facility, and the Community Outreach, Hospice, Palliative Care program at MWHC to send cards, letters, collages art work in an effort to brighten the days of some of our isolated seniors in the area. Additional JM volunteers are serving as pen pals with students at Lafayette Upper Elementary School. The Lafayette Lions are incorporating their correspondence with the JM students are part of their literacy curriculum.
“We are all very excited that our students have the opportunity to connect with members of greater Fredericksburg community,” noted Dr. Duffy.
Leslie and John Leahy (and James Monroe High School Principal Tim Duffy) preview the Ceili Leahy Day of Service.

A Go Fund Me page for FCPS employee, Andrea Ilardia, has been started by a colleague. The fundraiser was started in an effort to "give back" to Ms. Ilardia who has helped the FCPS community. More information about this fundraiser is available at the button below.
