Happy Holidays CES Families & Friends,
We are enjoying this holiday season at CES, and finding a balance between our academic content needs and some holiday spirit and activities. Our winter break will soon be upon us (December 20-Jan 6). We'll be taking 2 weeks off, and will be excited to welcome our students back on January 6, 2020.
Holiday sing-a-long - Thursday, December 19, from 1:45-2:30, our classes will all sing a song, and our 4th graders will play their recorders. Families are welcome to join us as we send our students off on their winter break.
Homework club cancelled. Unfortunately, we have to suspend our homework club at this time. We do not have the staffing available and not all of our students were benefiting from the experience. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Elks Hoop Shoot - Monday, January 6 from 1:45-3:15 in the CES gym for children ages 8-13. Come show Mr. Mac and Mr. G what you got CES Volcanoes!
Warm Clothing Drive - at the CES cafeteria - please donate any extra jackets, gloves, snow pants, etc on Tuesday, January 7 from 2:30-4:00. Families are welcome to pick up any needed items on Wednesday, January 8 from 2:30-4:00. Please contact our Student Services Coordinator (SSC), Ms. Angie Moreau, if you have any questions.
Outdoor recess. Please make sure your child has the proper clothing to be outside for 15-20 minutes enjoying some fresh air and play even when it's cold or snowing. (We will limit recess if we have a heavy rain to prevent them from getting drenched.) If students wish to climb on the snow hills created from the plows they need to have some boots and snow pants. Please let me know if questions or concerns. Thanks!
December 20 - possible school day. As long as we don't have any snow days this week, then we'll have December 20th off from school. If we do have a snow day this week, then we will have school on December 20th. (School delays - we do not make up the time.)
Reading each night? 20 minutes/night. Send me your pictures and your favorite books and we'll put them in an upcoming newsletter! Maybe consider some books for Christmas. The gift of literacy is a gift that keeps on giving, right? Check out some of the links below if you're looking for some ideas on books to purchase. Thanks for considering!
New Year's Resolutions and healthy lifestyles. We typically make some New Year's resolutions for a more productive and healthy year. You may want to encourage your child to identify some New Year's resolutions to include a more productive and healthy life, including less screen time, more reading, more activities or something else? My recent studies on the negative impacts of excessive screen time (computers, tablets, phone, TV) is alarming and concerning. I've attached a brief article from the Mayo Clinic on children and screen time. Please check it out below. Thanks for considering!
In closing, we appreciate your ongoing support and teaming with us to make 2019-2020 an exceptional elementary experience for our students. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!
