Social Studies Websites
Sites You May Want to Use
Just for You!
Normally when I send these flyers out, I include a broad range of resources that could be used across the subject areas and curriculum. Naturally some of these could be used in other classes, but the focus is primarily social studies. Hope you find something you may want to use.
Check These Out!
Smithsonian's History Explorer
Smithsonian's History Explorer looks like a really wonderful site. Check out the Lessons and Activities tab as well as the Interactives and Media. Seems to have a lot of US History material but there are other activities that may lend themselves well to the other areas.
Teaching Tolerance
Teaching Tolerance has many resources for thought-provoking classroom resources that support diversity education. Check out the Classroom Resources link for lesson ideas.
HSTRY
With HSTRY, you can create and explore interactive timelines. Check out this timeline for the Aztec, Inca, and Mayan Civilizations. There is a video showing a game and quizzes. This website could be presented as a link in Schoology for students to explore. Looks like this is free to explore, but you need to sign up and possibly pay to create one.

ICivics
ICivics has an assortment of exceptionally well-designed games that helps students to understand the workings of government better.
Listen Currrent
This website brings real-world stories from public radio into the classroom. Maybe find one for students to listen to after a test and let them listen away with their earbuds.
IWitness
IWitness has survivor testimonies with lessons and some accompanying videos.
GAMES
Kids.gov
Kids.gov is a website that has interactive activities students can do. Ben's Interactive Games, Place the State, and World Exploration look pretty good. The Geography Games won't work because you have to subscribe.
Interactive Sites for Education
Interactive Site for Education has links to all kinds of different activities under the social studies link. Topics like Ancient Egypt, Colonial Times, Civil War, Continents, and more are covered. This site was created by an educator from South Carolina. Looks good to me!
Mr. Nussbaum's Learning and Fun Website
This website was created by a 6th grade teacher from Virginia. This site has social studies games for History, Geography and the USA. Some of the links include: Continents and Oceans, Collage America, Conquer the Continents and Conquer the States and more.
Trumbull County Educational Service Center
This site is LOADED with social studies games. The site loaded quickly and the games seemed good. There is a link to the GeoBee which has 5 questions a day from the National Geographic Bee. I tried the Hangman game for the states; it was fun. Some links didn't work, but a lot did. Enjoy!
The publisher of this site is the Trumbull County Educational Service Center in Ohio, so the focus of this site is definitely educational.
