Butterfly School News for SEPTEMBER 2019!!
Welcome to the Riverside Church Butterfly School monthly news letter! Thank you for the opportunity to know, teach and love your child. It's been a great start to our 2019-20 school year, what a joy to see all the wonderful learning going on in our classrooms!
Four important Butterfly School housekeeping items:
1. The State of Texas requires that you sign your children in and out of class every day. If you leave without signing in your child, I will be required by Texas law to call you to return to school and complete this legally required procedure.
2. An annual tax statement will be provided to every Butterfly School family in January. Tuition receipts will be emailed to each family every month.
3. We love when our families stay after school to take advantage of the nice weather and use the outside playground equipment! For security reasons, the doors will be locked at 2:15 PM, and reentry will not be permitted. If you or your child needs to use the restroom, do so before leaving the building.
4. As our school year gets started and daily routines are being established, it is critically important to coordinate daily schedules to drop off and pick up your child on time. BFS hours are from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Your morning punctuality sets your child up for success as we begin our school year and establish our class routines. When your child is late, they miss out. At pick up time (2:00 PM), all teachers and staff have been instructed to bring any student that has not been signed out by 2:05 PM to the school office. Please refresh your familiarity with the Parent Handbook. It specifically states that there will be a late fee of $5.00 charged for the first 5 minutes and $2.00 for each additional minute thereafter. For your convenience BFS does offer, for a modest additional fee, the option to sign your child up for the After School Care program. If your calendar regularly conflicts with the 2:00 PM pickup requirement, the after school care program may be a less expensive option.
Riverside Safety Team
One of the many wonderful things about Butterfly School is our awesome safety crew! Our safety crew volunteer their time each morning and afternoon to help keep you and your children safe. We are extremely lucky to have them here to help. Be sure to say hello and thank you when you see them!
It was good to have Mr. Bob speak to us at the parent meeting. Here is a recap of his reminders.
1. The driver of a motor vehicle during drop off and pick up must refrain from using a cell phone.
2. Follow the directional pattern in the parking lot. Butterfly School has a one-way traffic pattern when it comes to drop-off and pick-up. Our safety team is out there to help remind you of this.
3. Drive Slow- PAY ATTENTION
4. Keep your child/children close to you.
5. No parking under the cover drive.
6. Lines in the parking lot are not ‘suggestions’, please park between them.
Please honor their directions as their first charge is to keep RBS children safe.
FORMS FORMS FORMS
- It is important to keep your personal contact information current so we can contact you in case of emergency
- It is important to up date your child's immunization form and physician statement the month of their well visit to the doctor- Four year olds need to include vision and hearing.

AFTERSCHOOL CARE!
Need to get the house clean?
Need time to prep food for Thanksgiving day?
Want to get a head start on Christmas shopping?
What about a nap after all the holiday fuss?!!
Running Late?
After School Care (ASC) is here to help!
ASC is available Tuesday-Friday, from 2pm-4pm. It’s $15 for the first hour and
$5 for the second hour. The first hour is typically spent in the classroom where
the kids can play, create art, watch a movie and have a snack that will be provided.
Depending on the weather, we either go to the gym or the playground for the
second hour.
This service is provided by a few Butterfly School teachers and is separate from
Butterfly School. If you’d like to have your student’s information on file to use
ASC on a regular or an as needed basis, pick up paperwork in the office, complete,
and give to your child’s teacher.
See you soon!

So excited for a new school year at the Butterfly School. The Bible has so much to teach us and stories that will amaze us. Each month I will post our Bible Verse and the weekly stories that will reinforce our verse on the Chapel door. So much learning fun awaits! We will start this year with "God helps us grow and learn about him" Samuel 3:19 and our Bible Story will be 1Samuel 3:1-21 God calls Samuel, Samuel Listens. We will be good listeners like Samuel!

I have a degree in deaf education and elementary education and am happy to incorporate both here at the school. This month we will be learning signs for the letters, numbers, colors that your child is focusing on for Sept in their three’s or four classrooms. We will also learn some signs that go along with their theme for the month.
Library Ms. Lee
Sensational Science- Ms Tracy
Coding Kids- Ms Susan
I am excited to meet everyone and to be your child's coding teacher this year. Pre-coding offers experiences that integrate 21st century skills that are valuable for our children's future in the digital world we live in. Coding builds many early math, literacy and problem solving skills that are beneficial in all aspects of learning not just technology. There will also be opportunities for the learners to interact and collaborate. We will be starting the year with screen free coding learning directions, patterns, and the vocabulary. In this class you will be cared about and your thoughts and ideas will be valued. This is going to be a great year.
What is Coding? A little but about what Coding is and why we are introducing it to our preschoolers.
