Meet the New Principal!

2022-2023 school year!

Hello Hesperian Students, Families and Community,

It is with much excitement that I introduce myself as your new principal of Hesperian Elementary School. I am honored to be joining this school community for the incoming 2022-2023 school year.

My name is Ruby Camarena and I have dedicated my career to the students of San Lorenzo Unified School District for 17 years. I began my journey as a student teacher, worked as a substitute teacher, taught 2nd Grade Bilingual and served as a Teacher on Special Assignment by coaching and supporting teachers. In my role as EL Coordinator I served English Language Learners and supported students in English and Spanish by providing reading intervention.

As a biliterate person, it is rewarding for me to be able to support and connect with students and families in two languages and I strive to continue biliteracy for my students whenever possible. I firmly believe that building partnerships between home and school is the best way to support students as they build confidence in themselves, giving them the power to shape their own futures and the future of our community.

As a busy working mom, I understand the work it takes to run a household, work fulltime and most importantly being there for my children’s learning needs. I am forever grateful to my husband who has been my support system through it all. I empathize with all families' unique situations and I am committed to providing open lines of communication among us. By keeping our students at the center of all decisions I hope to provide a variety of ways for families to be involved in their child’s education. I firmly believe that every child brings with them a wealth of knowledge, perspectives, life experiences and passions that contribute to our community as a whole and I look forward to learning more!

Again, I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the Hesperian Elementary School Family. Wishing you all a wonderful summer ahead and we’ll see each other soon!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Camarena
