Primary Duties of a Forensic Toxicologist
The prepare reports that identify toxins and their concentration in the body and must be able to preform carefully designed studies and experiments. The test that the scientist run to determine the extent of any physical or mental impairment caused by drug and alcohol use or to verify environmental contamination. Most are used to determine sports investigations and business screenings. On occasion, the forensic toxicologist may provide court testimony related to their procedures and findings.
Primary Duties of a Forensic Chemist
They perform routine chemical analysis of evidence submitted to the Chemistry Unit for controlled substance analysis. They maintain various instruments that are analytic in conducting analysis. And testify in court as an expert witness as to the results of test analysis.
Difference between Toxicology and Chemistry
The difference between forensic chemistry and toxicology is that toxicology investigates cases seeing if the use of drugs, alcohol or any poisons were used in that case. Also by providing results about the tests done to see if any of those things were used in the case. While forensic chemistry analyze evidence found on or about a person accused of a crime.
Understanding Toxicology and Chemistry within a Crime
On a crime scene the toxicologist has to isolate and identify any substances in the body that may have contributed to a crime. They perform tests on samples collected from the crime scene investigators and used instruments to determine if any substances were used in the samples given. While a chemist would take the evidence from the crime scene to check every substance that was collected at the crime scene and see all the chemical compounds that could be identified.
